Ni hao (你好) means how are you. Chinese people greet asking how you are or if you have eaten. They don't say hello.

NI HAO. Literally it means YOU GOOD?
Translated you could phrase it as: ARE YOU WELL? or ARE YOU OK?

The universal greeting is nihao (pronounced knee-how), which literally means: you (ni) hoa (good)? Someone might then reply, hoa (good).
