What fish is most commonly used for "fish 'n chips"?
Is Shark used? and is it called "Lemon Fish"?

Please help me clear up a debate.
List any fish that you know is used for "Fish 'n Chips".... please.

i believe cod is common

The most popular fish used in the US for fish and chips is Cod, second would be Pollock, then 3rd is probably Whiting. Cod is the firmest and best tasting of the 3. This in no way means they are the only fish. Sole, Lemon Sole and flounder are used often. If you have some extra cash to spare...Haddock or Grouper would have the best flavor.

Lemon fish is its own species of fish...not a shark. I have seen a few recipes but none for fish and chips, though it seems it would be firm enough. Try it...some of our most popular foods were discovered by trial and error...

The most commonly used fish in a restaurant is haddock, pollack and cod but the very best fish for fish and chips is halibut, especially a freshly caught halibut.

I've never heard of shark being used but try it, that's how new things get started.

Here in Massachusetts most places sell fish and chips with cod or haddock

almost always cod....never shark. its gotta be a mild white fish, shark has too strong a flavor sometimes haddock, other white fish can be used but cod is usually the cheapest

Cod and Whiting are the most common (and most abundant). Fish can be anything you prepare...Salmon, Walleye, Bass, Crappie, Mahi Mahi, Tuna, Halibut...the possibilities are endless...and YUMMY!

I worked in a lot of resturants and most is cod fish. if you go somewhere like red lobster they use what ever fish is on the menu

Here in New Zealand everyone uses Hoki (Macruronus novaezelandiae), unless you live on or near to the coast then you'd probably be offered a choice of the day's catch
