I have GAD and OCD, and yes I'm a little more paranoid about some things. It can be part of GAD and OCD, but it should never be considered normal. Your paranoia seems to be extreme, and you should seek help of a mental health professional before it damages your marriage and your life.

As far as your other question goes, it depends on the person, thier own fears and anxieties will cause thier own paranoia's. No matter what the paranoia, it's very important to talk to your doctor about it, so that they can help you judge what to do about it.

I have bi-polar disorder, depression and anxiety and yup I am very paranoid some of the times. I have also accused my mother of trying to drug my food and I was only half joking. I also get paranoid when people laugh when I am in a room with them. I immediately think they are discussing me. I can rarely enjoy long journeys because I am afraid of getting into an accident and I am too afraid to go for my driver's license (I am 27). So yup the paranoia thing is pretty common.

I have an anxiety disorder, but I never feared that a loved one was trying to kill me. Although my brother did actually try to kill me once...or twice...but that's beside the point, that was real, he had his hands around my throat and tried to suffocate me to death. This is not real, it's just you're wife pouring you coffee. If you can't trust someone you love to pour your coffee then you got issues...just like my brother has issues...with craziness.

I have GAD and I find that I'm often paranoid about little things such as people talking about me behind my back. I just assumed it was normal.
