I have a 6 month old golden retriever pup, and he does the same thing. I know this might sound gross, but that's their way of keeping it clean. I asked the vet, and he informed me that it's a normal thing for dogs to do. If you dog had an infection, it would pee more than usual, and not be able to hold it's urine. Just to be sure, check to see if there is any irritation in the area that she is licking, if there is, I would take her to the vet. Hope this helps!

She could very well have an infection. If she has thick hair, the moisture in summertime can cause some dogs to get a heat rash type of irritation in especially moist areas of the body... ears, mouth, genetals.
It's also very possible that she has started her first heat cycle. If her vulva is swollen and there's a whitish or even a light brownish discharge, I'd be willing to bet she was starting her cycle.
Look for anything unusual (swelling redness, discharge... etc) and let your vet know what you see.

I would try and get a urine sample. If she is licking like you explain there is something wrong. Look at her down there and see if you can see anything unusual. If it is a bad infection she may get crusty stuff around her and that is what she is trying to clean off. Then when she goes pee, it happens again.
Another sign is if she is housebroke and starts peeing in the house. It's painful and she can't figure out what is going on.
What she is doing is NOT normal and I would get her to the Vet for sure on Monday. Watch her close. I can tell you ahead of time
getting a urine sample is just too much fun...................
I just thought of something. If you think you are taking her in to the Vet he will want a sample. Try and get one tomorrow and you can keep it in the frige. overnight. It will keep that long.

It depends, I think you need to check her urine when she uses the bathroom, if there is any blood in the urine she may have a bladder infection.
It can also be an obbsessive lick, which can cause the dog in some places like their legs or sides to literally lick themselves into an infection.
I would ask a vet about this behavior, it could be a sign for many things.

That must be a lovely show for your guests. Maybe you could charge admission. Get a website with a webcam set up and make some big bucks. Take her to a preschool for show and tell day. Get her enrolled in a gymnastics class so she can do it in weird positions. Maybe she's just a $lut with no friend to help her.
This is reason # 479 why I don't have a dog.

This is normal behavior for a dog. When we go to the bathroom, we have toilet paper to wipe with and when we get into the shower, we use wash cloths to clean with. Dogs have nothing but their tongues to clean their genitals with. Dogs do like to be clean and this is their way of doing it. I probably wouldn't worry about it too much unless you start noticing any foul smelling discharge or blood in her urine or feces.

Is she fixed? If not, she might be having her first heat. When dogs are in heat, they are constantly licking themselves to keep clean.
If she is fixed, however, and the licking is excessive, then take her to the vet. Dogs can get infections - better have it checked out.

Dogs are NOT clean animals, they are the filthiest of them all, so it could be an irritation or something. Give her a bath with a proper dog shampoo for itching, etc.

She may have an infection. Get a urine sample and bring it
to your vet. Check for bites or a rash around the area.
