i usually chose a couple from church, that i know could mentally, and finacially help take care of the baby for life not just a few years, or a close friend, all my kids have god parents that can help out with babysitting them, take them school shopping, and help them with home work, you have to chose the god parents very carefully

Apparently a lot of people don't understand what godparents are. We chose close family members to be the godparents of our children. I am expecting our 4th child in January and we are in the process of deciding whom to ask. One thing to know is this --if you are Catholic only one of the godparents has to be a registered Catholic, meaning they belong to a Catholic Church and can prove it. The other one can be what they call a Christian Sponsor. We had to do this with our daughter born last year as the lady (my hubby's cousin) we picked out to be godmother had moved and wasn't registered with any church. Luckily my brother in law (the godfather) was registered so our godmother served as the Christian Sponsor and is still called godmother. We will probably have to do something similar this time as we are running out of registered Catholics! :)
Realize that the role of the Godparent has changed though. No longer will they be the ones raising your child if anything happens to you and your husband. That will most likely fall on your family and your husband's. It is more a honor that is bestowed on a friend or family member who has the same beliefs as you and will help guide your child spiritually.

Originally godparents were people responsible for your child's spiritual development if you were no longer around. Now it's more of a way to make a friend an honorary family member. However, some people select family members for godparents. Godparents should be some people you would want your child to go to for moral or spiritual guidance.

Godparents are chosen to help to raise children with a knowledge and knowing of and about God. You should pick someone who would best teach your child in Godly ways not only while your still on this earth but also long after you have departed. Take the time to think it over carefully because it is a big responsibility and you should not give this honor to someone who would take it lightly. I suggest you pray about it. Good luck and God Bless!

A godparent's position is to proceed your youngster's non secular coaching interior the structure that some thing takes position to you. In different words, in case you (God forbid!) die, your youngster's godparent might want to be responsible for provided that your newborn persevered to pass to the church that you belonged to, went to bible study/catechism, etc. Godparents do no longer no longer no longer obtain guardianship or criminal custody of your toddlers. it truly is reported as a criminal father or mom, and is a few thing thoroughly different from a godparent. As to whom you should opt for--i'd say whoever is a more effective "church-goer." you may want to compared for your sister-in-regulation, yet is she a sturdy Christian? Does she attend church usually? might want to you experience confident that she'd appreciate your desires? also, is she a similar denomination as you? you won't be able to realistically assume to have a godparent on your newborn who's Lutheran, yet you're Catholic, you comprehend?

think about who will raise your children as closely as you want them raised in your absence
also consider age and finances and if they want to be godparents
then put it in a will they are very inexpensive and then you know that what you want will be done with no confusion

You decide who you would want your child to be taken care of if something were to happen. If you have trouble...put yourself in the child's shoes.
