Depends on the size of the needle they use... ask for the smallest type possible.

I've been in the health care industry for over 35 years. To be honest, whether you feel pain or not has a lot to do with the lab tech's skill, experience, and expertise. Now-a-days, you always know the needles they use are nice and sharp since they are used only once, then discarded. If your vein is near the surface and easy to find, it shouldn't be a problem. Relax. If needles scare you, don't watch. If you tense up, it may make it harder for the technician to draw your blood. It's all over in less then a minute - then you'll be on your way with some peace of mind, knowing your doctors will be better able to care for you because of the results of your lab work.

Having your blood drawn does not hurt as much as getting a shot. Sometimes after having a shot the muscle hurts a little bit. Having blood drawn might seem worse, but it does not hurt much at all. Some people would rather have their finger poked but a finger poke hurts more because you have lots of sensitive nerves on your finger tips. In the crook of your arm there are not as many nerves and the veins stick out right there making it very easy. Have someone go with you and relax and watch them and make faces, sing silly songs or whatever and before you know it the procedure will be all done. The people at the lab will understand because they see scared people all the time and will try their best to make this as pleasant as possible. Next time it will be easier and the time after that even easier.

For most people it's different, some can handle pain and needles some can't. I have to be honset I was just like you and I had to get blood work done, but it didn't really hurt. Probably the worst part was knowing it was there, but just hold still and it's ok. Now you may get a little tingly sensation or it might bruise up, but it's all good. :)

If your that scared of needles ask the phlebotomist (the one who draws the blood) if you can lie down to have the blood drawn. Then make sure you look the other way. Another thing, DON'T hold your breath it can actually tighten the veins making your veins "freeze up" not allowing the blood to flow naturally. Resulting in the procedure taking longer.

I am phlebotomist have been for the past 16 years. The smallest needle is a 25 guage you don't want it. You will probably have to have the test repeated if the smallest guage is used unless you are under 10.

As you can see by my screen name I am a phlebotomist. There is a small pinch and you can ask them to use a small needle. I work in a hospital so I only use butterfly needles.

I always tell my patients "On the count of three, take a deep breath." This helps because you as the patient has to think about the deep breath you have to take and you forget I am about to pinch you.

I always have patients say that I didn't hurt them and I pride myself on getting my blood on the first try. Please don't be afraid to ask for the best blood drawer on site and don't be afraid to tell someone to stop trying if they are hurting you.

Don't let them "fish" which means they insert the needle and can't get a blood return so they keep readjusting the needle.

The good news is that it is usually over quickly and once taken you are on your way to finding out information on your blood that your doctor ordered!

the injections feel just like a tiny "pinch". but of course, it'll depend on who gives the injection. your best choice is to go to a lab in a hospital. there your blood will be taken by people who really know what they're doing. then just close your eyes, look away, and think about something happy. by the time you feel the pinch, it'll already be over. and relax your arm. that will definitely help.

You should DEFINITELY donate blood, it truly does save lives and you may be one of the special people with a rare blood type. The only difference between a lab draw and a donation is they use a slightly larger needle and they leave it in the vein for longer. It's not painful, at the worst its a bit uncomfortable

If you're afraid of it its gonna hurt. If you're not it wont. The worse you think about it, and stress about it the more anxious youll get about it. Some people like to watch it so they know when its gonna happen some dont like to watch it cause they dont want to know when theyre gonna get pricked. If theyre just testing your blood type theyll just prick your finger and let a few drops of blood out. If theyre doing medical tests on your blood itll be a really small needle thatll feel like someone pulled a strand of hair out almost. Its really not that bad if you dont make it
