Just tell him that you are not comfortable in this situation any more and you think it's time to move on.

To begin, I will answer the question without placing judgement. Isn't this what the website is about...answering questions?

You can simply tell him that you have put a lot of thought into the situation and have decided that you can no longer continue the affair because he is married and that you do not want to hurt his family. It may be difficult... maybe you can plan some time off around this period... Good luck.

I hope this co-worker was not a boss/management or an underling of yours because ending the relationship will cause trouble in the long run.
Remember now that after you ended it you will probably see this person daily until you quit/gets fired or he quits/get fired...and that chances are he is not going to "give up" his free spirited ways so easily.

I would be very honest with him and state point blankly that you were misguided and now that you've opened your eyes you don't want to be a marriage ruiner. If he is going to cheat without leaving the missus first, you don't want to be the "other woman" You want a man who is there for you and that he can fulfill it...ever.

(and plus. even if he did leave his wife chances are that he would eventually cheat on you too, as marriage is to be permanent anyway.)

Did you lead him on or did you find out later that hes married? If so, did you continue to partake in the forbidden fruit? If you knew he was married all along then its you who let it become an "affair".
Regardless, you need to nip it in the bud and tell your
co-hort to work with you on a professional level, establish a no hanky panky friendship or not, and then move on. I can't imagine the guilt involved with both parties. Good Luck.

Tell him you just can't do it anymore. It's a crummy situation to be caught up in.
