Most of the time: E-mail. But on some occasions a snail mail card or letter is better and more personal.
Examples: Christmas cards, condolence letters, wedding congrats.

I perfer email because if I am going to write to a friend quickly, I can. Besides, my handwriting looks like chicken scratch, so I can't really MAIL something someone will READ.

Snail mail is used mainly to send cards, junk mail, and business letters, and packages, because the shipping is so expensive these days.

E-mail for normal stuff because i really dont want to pay thirty nine cents every time i need to tell someone something. Thank-you notes and invitations to big parties (going away, sweet sixteen...) snail-mail.

Email if you want it to get there soon and get a response back just as fast. Snail mail if it requires your signature.

Young people see it as a good way to reach an elder - a parent, teacher or a boss - or to receive an attached file.

But increasingly, the former darling of high-tech communication is losing favour to instant and text messaging, and to the chatter generated on blogs and social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace.
