Its a natural instinct. When dogs were wild(millions of years back), sleeping on the flat ground was uncomfortable. So the used to dig a small ditch and open up the mud and curl and sleep in the ditch. Your dogs are doing the same thing. My dogs do that too. It's not that they're not comfortable. IT'S JUST A NATURAL INSTINCT. But if the problem is bothering you soooo much(coz they're tearing up you carpet), buy them a crate to sleep in or buy them separate rugs and restrict them from going on your carpet. ANothe possibility could be that they're trying to keep their nails in shape. So buy a good nailcutter and clip their nails and be sure not to cut the 'quick'. To be on the safer side, let the vet clip their nails. Their nails won't grow back very fast either!!
Hope that helped ;-)

Dogs do this because it is in bred from when there ancestors were wild they are checking the ground before laying down they even will turn in a circle a couple of times to, they do that to flatten say a area of grass down so they can lay down.

And u think that`s weird....wait till you learn what my dog does before finally deciding to settle down on the carpet. First it starts makin circles kinda as if tryin to chase his own tail...and then after may be 30 rounds...when it appears to be goin to throw out sorts...it sits. I think it`s kinda approach manuever ..the kind of that a plane does before landing. You know ...finding the exact spot and then KABOOmmm....pin it down. ; )

My dog, Meg, does the same thing, I have put it down to her trying to nest. I know it is infuriating. My way round the problem was to have laminate flooring layed, although she still does it on the hall rug. But at least I can easily replace that.

Dogs are stupid, they only know instinct, which is to scent mark. That's also why they pee everywhere and scratch and roll around in the grass outside.

Den instinct. Try spraying them with a water bottle or getting both of them their own blanket to dig into.

If I was a dog, I would not want to lie where I have once crapped your carpet. They're just checking...... why not try it!!!
