Did I damage the gum?
I had my lower wisdom tooth out 1 month ago and I have had sensitvity to the adjacdent molar ever since. Anyway, with this senstitivty I have been unable to brush good back there. Finally, I used a metal scaler (you know dental hygenists use to clean teeth with?) and I scraped the gum around the tooth. When I did then, I immediately started bleeding, and all this food came out of my tooth. Now, my gum is incredibly swollen and it almost looks like an abcess bulging out of my gum. It has been 2 days since this happened and it is still like this. I do have pain so I have been taking tlyenol.
I can't get into the dentist until Monday. What the heck happened? Is my tooth dying? Is it an infection?

In this situation, I would advise you seek out the advice of a dental healthcare professional and in the future, be more careful with your gums.

Ten down to the dollar, Luv, it is infected! Here is what you should do until Monday... Brush often as well as you can. Then floss. THEN gargle with warm salt water. in ten minutes, gargle again with a germ killer like Listerine. That will dry your oral tissues so you need to drink a green tea with honey and the intermittently continue to gargle with warm salt water... let the inflected are have the benefit of the salt-water's ability to draw out the infection... But by all means keep that area clean of any food that can lodge ,rot, & further cause that infection to fester.

Ideally, you want to clear up that infection via anti-biotics ASAP, the dentist will not be able to perform a root canal if the infection has moved to your jaw... This is serious. the infection must be cleared up! So don't procrastinate if the salt water brings some improvement... to be certain, you need to have that dentist checkout the potential for abcess. Keep your mouth extra clean during this time before and after the dentist visit... if it is an abcess, you'll be prescibed anti-biotics, in wich case you'll want to consume the odd "yogurt."

If you lose your oral heath, the rest of your system won't be far behind! Treat this VERY seriously!

It's probably not an abcess..They usually come from unrelentless tooth decay..You probably cut your gum with the scaler and just like any other cut it's going to swell and be sore. Try using warm salt water gargle it will hurt like hell when you do it but it will help with the pain down the road and prevent a major infection.

It sounds like to me that it became infected after having the tooth removed. Probably food got into the hole left there and caused it. The bleeding is probably just from the infection. I doubt that you have done any serious injury to it but you should be on antibiotics and see a dentist or doctor asap, you could always go to an urgent care or emergency room if you have to

Gee i hate to scold you, but never put a surgical or pick tool in your mouth without a dentist or such there with you. Sounds like you irritated the gum area against the tooth which will cause bleeding. Wash your mouth out with salt water , warm water! and swee a dentist as soon as possible!

I think..... Your dentist has failed to spot a cavity in the tooth adjacent to the molar that he(?) removed. It sounds as though you have an abcess. Keep eating pain killers - anything with codeine in is good - and keep rinsing your mouth as often as you can with mouthwash or warm, salty water.
& Get to the dentist, pronto!

Sweetie, gum can take some serious abuse before its effected negitively in any way. One time I chewed the same piece of gum for a whole day and afterwards it was still ok. I stuck it on my headboard so I could enjoy it more in the morning. No concerns!

you have an abscess the bleeding could also be a sign of gingivitis. Rinse your mouth out with warm salt water this will help the infection until you get to the dentist.

Ouch, sounds bad, that's good that your taking tylenol and your going to see a dentist. I bet it is just irritated because it got poked by the metal scaler.
