Advatange: your parents will be able to buy you more stuff and you will recieve better gifts in general. You won't be annoyed either by your siblings.

Disadvantage: You won't have anyone to play with or grow up with, which can be a very important aspect in a child's life.

The advantage is to do anything your parents allows you to
do as long as it is legal. The disadvantage is to share with
a love one(siblings). It's nice to grow up with siblings. It's
boring to grow up with out them.

Well, I'm an only child so I can tell you.
Advantages
1. It's easier for you to get what you want.
2. You get all the attention
3. You won't have a sibling to bug you

Disadvantages
1. You can get lonely. But you'll get use to it after a while. I'm use to it.

Here are just some of both

Advantages:
There is no one to compete with for attention from your parents.
No hand-me-downs (clothes, toys, etc...)
No one to watch out for because if they mess up you get into trouble.(only younger cousins if any and that's not all the time)
No one bossying you around just cause they are a year older.(only older cousins if any and that's not all the time)
etc...

Disadvantges
No one to play with you but grown-ups... it seriously limits the amount of time you get to have playmates and the games you get to play.
No one to do mischief with
No one to blame but the invisible friend when you do mischief
No one to have a good physical fight with over simple things like whether spiderman can kick batman's butt
etc...

i don't have children yet but i always thought i only wanted one child.
but if someone asks me to think of my childhood the very first thing i think of is my brother. we went through a family tragedy when we were teenagers and i couldnt have survived it emotionally without him.
we're adults now and my brother is my best friend. i have a life-long companion in him.
hehehe, gosh, i sound all mushy now, but when i think about it my brother is the greatest gift i've ever been given.
(don't tell him i said that. he would mock the **** out of me. hehehe)
