I am stoked about Floyd winning - this was a race for the history books.
But ease up on the French, huh? It gets old. After all, it is a great country, and when they say that "the world owns the Tour, not just the French" they mean it.

Not only is an American gonna take the jersey, but the story was almost like you were watching a movie. It was brilliant. I have been following since the beginning. I cried during the 16th to see him so spent then cried again during the 17th because he stuck it out when the world was against him & had written him off. I felt like I was witnessing one of those moments in history that no one ever forgets. I admired Floyd Landis' character prior to this tour, but I don't think anyone can doubt him ever again. He truly is an American hero.

Americans have well-trained pro athletes who have access to the best facilities, nutrition and sports technology.
BUT...
in cycling, the average or amateur non-racing French guy is impressively fast. Actually, many European cyclists are very fast. They log many more cycling miles than the average American cyclist that they build up more endurance and speed. Plus, they are exposed to competitive cycling at an early age. We have college cycling teams but not anything earlier so development is kinda late for us.
But still, our pro cyclists overcome and show great fortitude and WIN!
