Honey, I'm only 55, and when I was a kid, the only non-Christian I knew was a Jewish kid who went to the same school as me. Believe it or not, she fit right in, even at Christmas time.
Of course, back then, the teacher's major concerns with the kids were things like gum-chewing (yep, I wore my gum on my nose, too), throwing spit-balls (too yucky), or, if the kid was REALLY REALLY REALLY BAD...cigarettes.
Come to think of it, I didn't know any kids from one-parent families, or even one pregnant teenager...hmmmm...
I wonder what changed?

That's simply not an accurate statement.

Multiple surveys have determined that faith in a higher being (read: God) is as high as 90-95% in our country. That means most people believe in God. Regular attendance at religious services hovers nowadays in the 40-45% range - by far the highest of any industrialized Western nation.

I agree with your statement in that people are less demonstrative about their faith than in the past. There are a number of reasons for this, including the transient nature of the population (always moving, people don't live in one place long enough to become tied to a religious body), the religiously diverse makeup of many modern families, the growing significance of competing viewpoints (humanism, agnosticism, atheism), and the misguided belief among some that science has rendered religion useless.

Sin. People have forgotten. When Moses brought the ten commandments down off the mountain the people had already forgotten what the Lord did for them. History repeats itself. Now God being thrown out of the public life. The ACLU and Planned Parenthood and the liberal agenda all help destroy what made this country great. TV and the radio and now the Internet are available and the misinformation is being spread faster than ever. Christains are afraid to speak out because they fear the misinterpretation of the law and what people might think of them so they hide. God calls on us to be the salt and the light meaning that you go tell people of that they are doing wrong even if it is painful and that God must condemn them to death. Then show them the truth and how God will give them salvation. God also tells us to be bold and remember that whatever you endure, God endured it first and will honor you in heaven for being his disciple.

We are wising up. We have better education, etc. A few hundred years ago, we were in the dark ages and you had to believe in god or die. Science was lost, and the world was in poor shape. Then when we came out of it, we god freedom of religion, and science was allowed as it had been seen as anti- god religion alternative. With science growing, we could make theories and suggest things that would go against the existence of god. Facts that show religion to be a lie were allowed to spread, and now we have the evidence, and can decide for ourselves, so with all of the facts and proof we have now, we can recognize that there is no god, and think freely. We are allowed to believe the truth that there is no god, and we just know better than our parents.

Most people 100 years ago were rural farmers who lived in small communities. They didn't have even 10% of the technology we have today.

Most people today live in cities, and are surrounded by the miracles of science. We don't have that childlike perspective of the world around us anymore.

We're much more rational and reasonable than people who lived 100 years ago, and a lot less superstitious.

Also, you might be a bit confused too. 100 years ago, there were lots of socialist and free thinker movements going on throughout America.

People were definitely fed up with the mysticism of religion in a technologically advancing society.

If people believe in something they like to have support. America is such a diverse country w/ many cutlers and different beliefs. I believe everyone has some type of faith in God though, but how do you define GOD.

i guess God in the US is just another word for business...
u know...the kind of christian preaching that goes on - all show (literally - no weight) - the fancy cars they own...the amount of ppl. the gather for their entertaining hellulluyahs...
and yes... ppl. have been exposed to fake spirituality...
the benny hinns and oshos....
on the other hand surveys prove that the fastest growing religion in US is islam... not what many expected...

“Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands clear from error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things.” (Quran 2:256)

We also know how to properly cook meat so bacteria are killed too. Does this mean meat no longer has bacteria? No, it means science has educated us on how to cook it.

Education! We are more informed and more intelligent than we were back then. We are able to use science to prove things now.

It is also easier for us to disseminate the information we discover to the general public.

I think it's because of our advances in Science and medicine and the fact that there is now a huge diversity in Religion itself. There are so many different things to believe in now that it expanded to much people now also choose to believe in nothing.

Interesting question by the way ^^

Tehe focus today is on me and nothing else. 100 years ago it was on family and others. When the focus on the individual occured, the individual became god.
