i know there are law enforcemen officials out there and i need some civilized advice. here's the deal: with the AC on, the tv at a decent volume and we can hear their tv!!!
the husband works nights and we can always tell he is home (after midnight) 'cause he drops his shoes right by the bedroom door. they just had a child and they make a lot of noise when they get up to feed the baby. we put up with the noise during the day, we understand how hard it is to keep a toddler still, but at midnight????
and get this, this family complains about THEIR upstairs neighbor and have even called the cops.
so, any good suggestions? i do not want to deal directly with them because it could turn into a nightmare. i do not want to get into screeaming matches or calling the cops, yet.
we call the landlord to compain but there is only so much he can do.

i live in Bklyn, NY right by the highway, and even with the AC on I can hear their TV. I have lived in this building for almost 10 yrs now, many neighbors have come and gone and NO ONE has even complained about us. Some of you know how life is in NYC, you're only home late at night or some weekends. And no, we're not rude NYers. If that was the case i would not be asking for civilized help....

any noise keeping you awake past midnight is grounds for calling the police. I hate apts or condos because of that exact problem.
I can remember it getting so bad I had to buy a gun.
so anyway, if you dont want to get them to be a little more curtious then MOVE to the country.
I have to tell you that there is IDIOTS out there who have no concern for others. Just what they need to do in there lives and screw the rest. It sounds like you got one of those!
So I would move ASAP.
OR call the cops every chance you get!

LOL I love the persons answer above mine about the TIRES AND THE SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

also about the TV NOISE I would go to the side and cut his cable wire or satelite wire. better yet splice it into your house to steal his cable for free. !!! HA HA
I did that for my neighbor one time gave him a splice off my cable and then charged him!!!! thank you cable tv
oh yeah I was just reading someone said take cookies to them.
YEAH I would make sure they were made with CAT FOOD!!!

Wow.. it sounds like a horror story that I have heard many times before. It is difficult to know exactly what to do.. If you do anything, it will make feelings between neighbors WORSE.. never better. If you call the police, it causes problem. I believe that I would TRY to talk to the neighbor about the noise(which I am sure would do not good) and when happens again, call the police (all the time keeping note of dates, etc) and if that did not good, I would buy a radio with big woofers pointed at his wall and play it loudly at all hours of the day.

it sounds like you have got neighbors from hell you have 3 options 2 of which are unlikely pray they move you move or call and file a report with the police though it does not seem like a reasonable thing to do either because it is not like they are playing loud music at midnight they should still be respectable of other people the landlord should have talked to them about there noise at night

Call the cops and file a complaint for disturbing the peace. If neither they, nor your landlord does anything about them, file suit against your landlord for negligence. The landlord can evict tenants for various infractions. Find your rental/lease agreement and read it carefully. Chances are good that they signed the same contract. If there are any clauses for eviction over continued public nuisance, then force your landlord to enforce the contract, or sue him for breach of contract.

Get your tape recorder out, and start taping all the noise they cause. Then when you have some evidence, take it to your local DA and tell him what you have to put up with. Make sure you can pick up all the sounds that they make, and he will probably contact them, with a warning. It worked for me, when my neighbors dog, barked all day and night. They even left him out in the cold, and snow. I taped him barking, and the DA gave them a warning, not to allow the dog to bark after 10PM, or before 7AM. They have moved now, but it did stop all "well not all" the barking..good luck..

Bob

Take some cookies over to them (really) and oh and aw over the baby and tell them if they need anything to let you know.

Casually mention the noise but don't push it.

In other words make a friend not an enemy.

Friends will help each other out.

Your landlord is the person who has all the power here.

The police cannot do anything to force them to turn it down because you can hear it through your walls. Now, if i can be heard from public areas like the street and such.........the police have some pull there, but not a whole lot. It is not that the police won't do anything, it is that they can't.

Talk to your landlord

Normally I would suggest talking to them first. In the situation you describe, I doubt that would help. Most jurisdictions have noise ordinances limiting how much noise they can make. I'm not sure how aggressively they are enforced. If they call the police about noise, why not call the police about their noise?

You can lodge a complaint over the tv. As for feeding the baby and the toddler there nothing you can do about this. I would suggest you start appartment searching if it is that bad for you.
