Answer to first part of your question:
Pride is the root of all evil. Pride was the first sin committed by Satan and the first sin committed by Adam and Eve. Pride is what leads to all other sins.
Answer to second part of your question:
Because the Catholic Church does a lot more to help the poor and the needy in the world than anyone else. And this help is not just physical help but it is spiritual to help them find eternal salvation with God in Heaven.
The Catholic Church runs the world's largest system of hospitals and medical care. And for centuries the Catholic Church has been the biggest and most devoted helper of the poorest of the poor in the world.

You are mixing apples and oranges here. The axiom, "money is the root of all evil", is not part of Church Doctrine. It is a secular axiom that you are attempting to pass off as Church teaching.
Church Doctrine does, however, teach that sin is the root of all evil. It also teaches that money, in and of itself, is neither good nor evil. It is the use to which money is put that could be either good or bad.
By your logic, the more money a person or organization has, the more evil it is. This is obviously not true because there are many rich people and organizations out there giving large portions of their wealth to worthy charitable causes.
Money tends to tempt greed. It is possible that the more money one accumulates, the more greedy one becomes. This is the sin of greed at work. Not all people people who accumulate great wealth suffer from greed.
Wealth does not always imply greed. Take the Catholic Church for example. It possesses tremendous wealth, not from greed but, from charity.
Parishioners donate billions. Catholic Charities collect more from charitable non-Catholics. That is why the Catholic Church has the wealth it has - from Charity, not greed.
No, not a single Catholic soul is forced to donate anything. There's no tithing in Catholicism. Parishioners give whatever they want, however much or however little, they can. God loves a cheerful giver, you know - and there are many in the Catholic Church.
Normally, cheerful givers are not accused of greed, normally.
Instead of assuming the worst, try giving the benefit of the doubt to the best.

Hi Jeff,
you have misunderstood the scriptures. The scripture did not say that money is the root of all evil but that "the LOVE of money is the root of all evil." Therefore if you love money too much you will do everything within your scope to achieve it, both selfishly and illegally.
In answering your question, the Catholics having so much is probably because of their charitable spirits. People will give more to those that they view as been charitable to the poor and needy than those that offers no support at all to the less fortunate.

Hi. The "Love" of money is the root of all evil. Money is just an object. It's how it's used that's the issue. Blaming $ as the root of all evil is similar 2 blaming guns for killing people or 2 forks for making people fat. All of these things r lifeless objects. What happens is up 2 the user. Happy Sabbath. (Smile.)

First, because they prefer money for elements and such. they don't seem to be taxed, yet there are quite some commodities to be paid for. As a 2d element, money isn't the inspiration of all evil. In some Christian faiths, transforming into prosperous is even supported see you later as you're also charitable.

Glad for the misquote, the love of money ( not the money) is the root of all evil.
Churches have money to use and help the poor. Catholic Charities does more charity work than any other group.
And of course it takes alot of money to operate a large gorup.

The LOVE of money is the root of all evil-not money. If you want to know what God thinks of money-look who he gives it to.
The Catholic Church has to defend against all of those sex abuse lawsuits and cases.

It is not 'money' that is the root of all evil but the 'Love of Money' that is the villain. Well all churches (christian or otherwise) have a lot of money and they are all evil!!

Because they decided to ignore "Money is the root of all evil." They don't want to think about it. You think Catholics have money, try evangelicals, like Southern Baptists. I don't think Jesus Christ would have the time of day for these folks.
