While I don't have a spagetti recipe, I can tell you that whole grain pasta is better tasting and more healthy than other pasta types. However, a few of the "high-fiber" brands taste like cardboard!

Also, the secret to a good spagetti sauce is putting in just the right amount of garlic.

Go to pages 11 & 12 at the website below, for spagetti and sauces.

Ok.

1 Onion
Olive Oil
Crushed Tomatoes
Salt
Pepper
Tomato Concentrate in a tube (Amore brand in the US, Starr in Italy) - just a squeeze; don't add the whole tube!
Vegetable stock cube

Sautee onion in olive oil until soft and translucent. Add all other ingredients and simmer on a medium / medium-low heat until thickened. I suggest you use a large, deep frying pan or skillet as it makes the sauce thicken quicker (use a splash guard if you have one. Otherwise, leave the lid half on and have off to allow steam to escape).

ABSOLUTELY NO GARLIC AND NO OREGANO!!!

As far as pasta goes. De Cecco is the best, but Barilla is OK too. Don't use whole wheat as it is positively disgusting. If you want pasta that is good for you and won't make you puke, try Barilla Plus. It is made with flour made from pulses and is high in protein and fibre. The texture is a bit odd, but at least it doesn't taste like a tree trunk.

I like Prego, myself.
However, I doctor it up with fresh sliced mushrooms, gr beef or Italian sausage, green pepper and onions and garlic.
Tastes great!
If you want a recipe for making your own sauce, I used to make it this way:
1 28 oz can tomato sauce
1 28oz can diced tomatoes (Italian style)
1 28 oz can tomato puree
1 small can tomato paste
1/4 cup red wine (any kid)
Season to taste fresh basil, oregano, pepper, salt
or use Italian spice in a jar.
I also used to make it with fresh tomatoes (plum).
Simmer all together for about half hour to an hour
You can add meat or veggies if you like

ok...this is it....it doesn't get any better....(oh yeah, by the way i'm sicilian).....start with a nice deep pot. Get 2 or 3 cloves of garlic, slice thin (this way people can pick them out if they don't like it)...1 large onion diced.....put some "extra virgin" olive oil in your pot....just until bottom of pot is coated. Fry the onion and garlic until onion is clear but watch the garlic so it don't get to brown or it will make your sauce bitter. Get 2 28 oz. cans of San Marzano whole peeled tomates....Squeeze them yourself until they are well broken down...Put them in your pot....mix thoroughly...cook on low to medium heat....Add a little water once in a while to your desired thickness....Add some red wine, black pepper. Once it comes to a boil, lower the heat, simmer for 1 hour....At the last 10 minutes or so, throw in fresh basil.....Remove from heat let stand, make sure it's cool and store in frig if its for next day....Voila...unbelievable sauce.....trust me...

I by the jar stuff and add my own ingredients--meat, olives, mushrooms, lots of garlic, italian spices, onion....etc...mix it up with whatever you have in the fridge....

Another good thing, shredded zucchinni in the sauce! MMMM! Hides it from the kids!

I make an awesome home-made spaghetti sauce. But if I shared it with you, I'd have to kill you.
