If it makes you happy, do it. Don't listen to the people saying things like "Ya'll gun' turn inta' a TERRORIST!" because they're just ignorant. But I suspect you already know that.

Poor kid.
Islam is sort of like some street gangs, or the mafia.
It is very easy to get IN
It is a bit more difficult to get OUT again.
If you are an American citizen, or black, I would advise you to first check out the Arabian variety of Islam. Alot of our young black people, disgusted with what they see as "white religion" (i.e. Christianity) are being led to believe that Islam is their true heritage. Not so. What's more, is...those Arabs will cut your throat even quicker than they will the white guy who isn't a Muslim...cuz they hate black people as much as any Alabama Baptist KKK Freemason......or maybe even more.
EDIT:
I'll betcha the answerer above me has never had a good friend killed because she wanted to leave the Muslim faith? Be prepared to weep.

First, make sure that it is from your heart. Make wudu with the intention to take your Shahada. You can do it by yourself but I suggest that you go to your mosque and do it with the support of other Muslim brothers/sisters.
Never stop learnig about our wonderful deen. If you have questions I would not ask here as you will get a lot of flack here. There are other sites, beliefnet.com is a good one, just find islam in the discussions.

Why? All major religions are the same! Every prophet said the same thing. The later additions by the clergy are what are different. A change of religion is merely superficial and has social repurcussions that are not worthwhile. I suggest you first study and understand what the Prophets said. Dont go by what the present clergy says - they basically earn their daily bread through the religion they preach so they have a vested interest.

Gosh, I feel so sad about most of the answers to your question...
And now, I am very proud to be a non-theist, because if I were a christian, I would feel very ashamed by most of these answers...
I consider that Islam is one respectful religion among many other ones.
I suggest you to contact a religous islamic leader who you can trust, ie someone agreed by your country, by your city.
When you feel you can trust this person, go and ask him/her questions, advices, and so on.
I would have suggested the same to you for any other religion.
There are so many wonderful islamic believers. Don't pay attention to islamic/christian/xxx fanatics. They are just a minority.

Why enter ANY religion? Do you think it would make you better than other people? Categorize you so you could be part of (the "wonderful") diversity so you can look down on or hate other kinds of "God"-worshipers? Would your religion put food on your table? Or just waste brain-space and time following a designated ritual?

The word Islam Literally means peace. Ignorance and bad pulicity gives it a wrong name. One of the core priciples in Islam is unconditinal love, compassion , and patience.

Islam will not give you eternal life. Only Jesus can do that.

Study Islam first and if you agree than accept otherwise keep following whatever religion you belongs to and just don't spread hatred.
Ahmadia movement is a cult where you have to pay 8% of your pre tax earning to go to heaven.

Many in Islam are turning to Christ but are having to do it with fear because in many areas if you leave Islam you are persecuted or killed so be careful what you do. No problem to leave Christianity as far as death threats so maybe you should try that first.

sure i advice you...cause im a muslim. lol.
but depending on where you live, you might want to contact the local mosque for support. if not, find a decent muslim forum for support.
read over the basics and if you believe that there is only one God and Mohamed (peace be upon him) was his last messenger, then hasten to say the shahadah...which is this:
ASH-HADU ANLA ELAHA ILLA-ALLAH WA ASH-HADU ANNA MOHAMMADAN RASUL-ALLAH".
"I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah, and I bear witness that Mohammad is the Messenger of Allah"
it is as simple as that.
but make sure not to do it for the people, or anyone else. you must do it cause it is the truth and for God. you cant be forced.
oh and your loved ones might react in a negative way but inshallah (God willing) they will come around it and accept your decision.
