The best thing to do is put them in a bowl in the sink and run cold water over them. You can also put them in a colandar and run water over them. It should not take more than 5 to 10 minutes.

never run warm water on them like juan hombre says, that would be STUPID. the best way is to thaw them under refrigeration and if not run cold water on them submerged in a bowl with the water running, ideally the water should be less than 70 degrees which can be tough in warm areas during the summer. put your shrimp in a collander and run cold water on them for about 5 minutes. they will defrost and still be fresh. i did it 3 days ago

you can drop deep frozen shrimp straight in the boiling water or wine .put very little and when it begins to steam put in the shrimp and cover ,with a lid
add some garlic ,chili and lemon juice and voila,
should be done in a couple of minutes
