If you are using XP or 2000 you can right click on my computer and select manage. Then select disk management. You will see a list of drives. Right click on the drive in the lower part of the window. Select change drive letter and path. You will then be able to change the drive letter. You will have to change the drive that is currently "c" to something else. Then change the CD drive to "C"

And for you people that think a computer won't boot from the "D" drive you haven't had enough experience yet.

C: drive is the hard drive. this dates back from the early days, when A: and B: were the floppy drives and the hard drive was on an expansion card and named C: D: can be either a second hard drive, a partition on the C: drive, or a CDROM. Most people dont partition and dont have a 2nd hard drive so D: becomes the first CDROM drive. Your problem isnt much of a problem unless youve been attempting to stick CDs into your hard drive.

You do NOT want to put a cdrom drive in your "C" drive. All your programs, including your operating system are set up to install to "C" drive which has to be your hard drive, not a cdrom. D drive is the normal designation for a cdrom drive unless you have more than one hard drive. So you either mistated the question very badly or you don't know anything about computers.

Maybe, your BIOS configuration has an error. most computers have its own program to set up the bios. In that case you migu want to set it up yourself. usually, hitting del during the booting process shows up the setup for the bios, find the setting for the primary secondary drives and set the primary drive to your hard disk and the secondary drive to your cd rom. dont forget to save your settings.

The assignment of letters for Hard and Optical drives is done by the Bios. I don't believe that you can assign drive letters at will.
