I am sure they enjoy live without drugs, not like most industrialized countries that use it and then blame Colombians.

I don't live there, but am half Colombian and have traveled there many times during my life. I was a bit surprised to see this article, as there is a lot of poverty and difficulty in Colombia with the rebels.

That said, Colombians do have a real love for life. They love to go out dancing, love to get together with friends for dinner, drinks and dancing. They have lots of 3 day weekends there (no joke, since its a Catholic country, they have lots of days off for different Saints days. A law was passed years ago that converted all those days off to Mondays.) There are probably about 20 3 day weekends during the year.

Colombians enjoy music and going out into the countryside to their fincas (country homes) on the weekend. Also, the weather in Colombia is generally warm and sunny (there are only a few places high in the mountains where there is snow).

So, I guess they take that joy for life into account when they made their "happiness survey".

Colombia is a very happy country despite of its problems (drugs and guerrilla). Most of Colombian people (I would say 95%) are very honest, hard workers, easy-going, open minded, friendly, talkative and very, very kind.
Colombian people care about others and trust other people.
All of these qualities help Colombians to grow themselves.
If you have the opportunity to travel to Colombia, there are lots of touristic places to visit. You won't regret it.
If you want to know a little bit more about Colombia visit:

Good luck!!!
P.D.
If Colombia is the world's second happiest country, WHICH ONE IS THE FIRST?
