no pain.
Fortunately/unfortunately there are plenty of "pain huggers" such as yourself.
PS: Don't pain too much - life might pass you by

well, kind of yes and kind of no.
When I first started on Yahoo Answers, I bohtered me that there were so many Atheists.
So many people that didn't belive the Word of God. So many that thought it was a fairy tale or something.. and it bohtered me sooooo bad..
Then I prayed about it and realized that I am just like a chain. At the end of that chain is Christ. I may be the first link, or the 3rd or the next to last.. but I am on a mission regardless.
It doesn't bother me so bad anymore. I mean if I had a choice - yes I would want them saved, but I don't let it get to me like it did. Until this question I just don't even think aobut it anymore. I just answer what I know of the Bible and let it be.

I don't like to judge others for what they believe in.
There are many many atheists who are very good, righteous, fair people and sometimes even better than those with religion.
I am not pained about them, as it would sound like hypocrisy - just as your question does!
Nobody knows the ultimate truth, therefore nobody is really entitled to claim that one's religion or philosophy is better than the rest available. Such statements are illogical and unfortunately they are often abused as a trigger for violence - just look at the Middle East nowadays... wars are made based on creed but for totally materialistic basic reasons (oil, resources, others...)!
Saying that we pity those who are non-believers is dangerous..... some may interpret it as having a right to JUDGE these people and RULE them!
That kind of judgement contradicts with my mentality... but, I must honestly say that I fear people who don't belong to any kind of religious or cultural grouping and don't have this social backbone - they are the easily influencible ones, who can be easily pulled into any kind of extremist stuff or sinful and harmful social behavior, simply because they have no system of values to believe in and to build on!

I think it's terribly sad that people can spend almost their entire lives believing a banal religious myth and never seeing the true wonder of the universe we live in. There is absolutely nothing to compare with the excitement and fascination and intellectual satisfaction of a rationally justified approach to understanding reality.
I think we atheists have a duty and a responsibility to challenge the absurdity of religious belief and to work towards a better world by helping to eradicate it. We need to bring reason and enlightenment to a world which is still in many places mired in irrationality and superstition. We need to show people that there is a better worldview than ancient mythology. Above all, we absolutely must continue and build upon the efforts of those courageous atheists in history who suffered persecution, torture and death to bring us the freedoms that most of us take entirely for granted today.

Yes.
People will not burn in hell. It's a fact based on near-death experiencers. There is a hell, but most likely not how you might think it is.
Love, by works of UNCONDITIONAL LOVE (i.e. showing and giving unconditional love) is the only way to enter in the Kingdom.
Our Mission is to unite as 1 in heaven, until WE ALL get there. Read Matthew 18:12-14. You will understand.
Read about these near-death experiences at:
http://www.near-death.com/origen.html
Note: Near-death experiencers are people who ACTUALLY DIED AND CAME BACK TO LIFE IN THE SAME BODY.

Ack, I think I misinterpreted the question.
Do I feel pained that people who don't believe in a Higher Power don't know the comfort of that relationship?
No, not really, because they have the choice to believe or not. It's not my place to say that they should or shouldn't believe in a Higher Power or not.
I personally don't understand it, having spent a part of my life not believing in a Higher Power and realizing to me how empty it felt. But I know several atheists and agnostics who are perfectly happy with their choice and who don't "need" to believe.
If it works for them, more power to them.

No. I don't believe in god or the devil. I am comfortable with myself. As long as I do the next right thing. If I were doing bad things I might need to seek comfort in something other than myself, and those around me.

11And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
