God told Abraham to take the life of his child. I know times have changed, but if He asked you, would you do this for God?

And if not, why not? We know the details that God didn't have him go through with it, but say, you had to prove it .... would you?

This isnt about the point of the story. It's about the question. That's all.

By the way, I believe in God but not religious. I am an ordinary person who is just asking a question.

This is one of the best examples showing the evilness of the Old Testament God. Of course I wouldn't do anything of the sort! Only a tyrant would test someone by this method.

Abraham also pimped his wife out to the Pharaoh for gifts of wealth. Sarah was a whore, and her husband was her pimp. She ended up giving the Pharaoh and his court an STD (plague), so the Pharaoh stopped having sex with her, and sent her and Abraham on their way. Abraham also owned slaves. He knocked up his female slave Hagar, and then sent her and his bastard son Ishmael out into the desert without water to die. He forcibly performed painful and dangerous genital mutilation on all of his male slaves. Abraham was also a self-mutilator, who at age 90 cut off his own foreskin. He also was a child sex abuser, mutilating his son's penis as well. He also practiced blood-sacrifice and animal mutilation. Is it any wonder he would want to murder his other son, Isaac?

Read the Bible. Do you want to follow a religion based on a covenant made to this man? I wouldn't. If Abraham seems credible to you, why not just join the Manson family (god told Charles Manson to commit his crimes too).

God is OK with murder.

Secular Law prohibits murder.

God is a criminal.

Premeditated murders planned and carried out by God
> People murdered in Noah's flood (sent water)
> Egyptian children in tenth plague (sent angel of death)
> Egyptian army in the red sea (returned water only AFTER they entered the sea and could not get out)
> Jesus crucified (note god used Jews and Romans, but planned this carefully)

There are lots more if you look for them...

Added as an afterthought
Look in this string at the number of "good Christians" that would murder their children if they thought God spoke to them. When (if) these "good" folks go a little schizophrenic and begin hearing voices it could be a 'Son of Sam' home version.

scary isn't it?

God has done away with the old law and sacrifices. If someone asked that it would not be God.

If you mean, would my faith have been strong enough if I had been in Abraham's shoes(sandals)?
That's a tough one, but remember God spoke directly to Abraham. We have a few yrs before we reach our 90s. If my wife gets pregnant then, hopefully our faith will have grown. lol

I love our son, and that is a hard one to fathom, but because I know that Abraham did that and his son lived, Yes, for the love and everlasting life of Jesus and knowing my son would be saved from this sacrifice that I did, yes. God gave us our son in the first place and if it is his will to take him as well we must put our trust and faith in him to override any emotions. God giveth and God taketh away. It is not alone "our child" but God's as well.
Good question.

I have a child, and im a christian. i would never do it. if God wanted my child, he would have to go through me. I understand that the story was about faith..whatever, whatever...test me in something else God, not the life of my freakin child....another reason why either we don't have enough of the story to make sense of it, or the bible is just freakin retarded.

He only asked Him to do it to see where Abraham's allegiance was. To God or to himself. Once He saw that Abraham was willing to follow God's will, God stopped him and rewarded him.

NO, because God does no longer do that. He did it THEN as an example for US. Just as he no longer writes the Bible for us because its COMPLETE.

The reason he did it then, was as an example of what HE WAS GOING TO DO AND TO SHOW THE PAIN IT WOULD CAUSE HIM WHEN IT HAPPENED. Even though he's God, his love for his son, Christ was REAL and Jesus was DEAD in the grave for 3 days before being resurrected to Heaven.

Excellent question.
This is an example of amazing faith.

Look at Genesis 22:5 (NKJV) And Abraham said to his young men, "Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you."

.....WE will come back to you.

Abraham didn't know how but he knew, despite the clear instructions, they both would return.

Important here is your relationship with God, Abraham knew his relationship, and he trusted and Love God. when you love someone you will do any thing for that one. if people give their life for king and country, then why can't it be for God who gives all things, even life and life eternal.
