Another question from my cousin!

How do you tell the difference between a baby pigeon and an adult one...she's wonderin' why see never sees baby pigeons around.

I told her she's just not lookin. After their mating season and the babies are now gettin' bigger you can find them in the eaves of store roofs. You know it's the baby because it's the one gettin' the pigeon milk!

But what's yer best answer?
OH...can you state where your answering from...she doesn't believe that people from ALL over the world click on to this site!
I'm in CA.
Thanks again1
Thanks..

by the time they leave the nest..they pretty much look like the adults...if you really look at pigeons closely..you may be able to spot the babies because they will have some feathers that look a little fluffy..and yes...if you see one feeding the other, you will know one is a baby. Also here in California (So. Cal)

TO SMILEY CATS COUSIN!!
Ok,I'm in England, and have had two baby pigeons in my garden, sitting on the fence all day! The parents have spent all spring and summer here. These are Wood pigeons. The baby's are obviously a lot smaller, wood pigeons are quite large. They are fluffier to look at,but their colouring has not yet fully developed. The eyes are larger and brighter, that's because they still need to get the rest of their feathers. The beaks are still soft looking and slightly wider than the adults. When baby pigeons emerge from the nest, they are almost full grown,so you have to look closely to spot one,but I promise you, they are there!! I am near LONDON ENGLAND!

Calgary Canada here. I've actually had a pigeon nest on my balcony when I lived in a highrise in Ottawa. Pigeons do lay eggs and ugly, noisy little babies do emerge and within a few weeks they are big enough to fly away . You never actually see baby pigeons around, because they can't fly and the nests are pretty well hidden on shelves and in crevasses up high. By the way, pigeons don't feed their babies milk, but food that they have eaten themselves and partially digested(gross but true)

Ok I Know

My Name is Joe I live on Long Island, NY I have spent years studying various bird species, their behavior, diet captive care and breeding.

The reason you dont see baby pigeons is because #1 the parents raise them in a dark secure area away from predators until they are old enough to fly with their parents. #2 when they do fly with their parents they are the same size, with the same colors, they peck on the crumbs on the groung alongside their parents.

I've studied pigeon flocks and seen their nest sites. And it is absolutely true.

If you have any other questions feel free to email me at fatwhale90@yahoo.com

I hope this helps

Baby birds (including pigeons) stay in the nests until they flege (get their adult feathers); you can recognize the babies because they may still have some of their down feathers (think baby ducks). By the way, birds don't make milk.

I'm in FL.

properly my father has been racing pigeons for 20 years and in reality their enormous breeding season is in spring, and they retain their nests hidden from predators, hawks LOVE ingesting pigeons, ( my dad has had to shoot some hawks )

Maybe they just stay up in the nests until they get alil bigger & when theyre learning to fly, they fly too high for us to see but if they start to stoop to low, we just think they're finches.

baby pigeons stay in nests. when they're ready to fily they aren't much smaller than the adults, but smaller not hte less. one can recognise them by their brighter coloration
