I'm from England, I'm 23 and have a British Provisional license which is simillar to the Instruction Permit. I will moving to AZ in October as my fiance is being based in Davis-Monthan air base, on a fiance visa which is the step before i get a green card. I have searched the website for the AZ DMV but find no information about my situation.
1) Will i be able to apply for a license with the visa i have?
2) Can I just take the test and get a license and not have to get a Instruction Permit as I've done over 30 hours of driving in the UK?

Thank you so much if anyone can help me.

Well, I don't know about Arizona's requirements particularly, but if you can drive in Europe, trust me, you can get a license in Arizona or anywhere in the US. Just take the written test, counter-top eye exam (at the time of the written test, unless AZ has some weird rules I've never seen elsewhere) and a short driving test with an examiner, and you're done. Do your hair nice that day, because the photo is taken on the spot.

Also recall that in Phoenix a red light means "only the next five vehicles may proceed". It's a terrible place to be introduced to US driving. (On second thought, there aren't many good places.)

Welcome to the States. Good luck!

I AM FROM AZ AND HAVE LIVED THERE SINCE 1979, I CAN TELL YOU NOW, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TAKE THE WRITTEN AND DRIVING TEST, PASS THEM BOTH AND THEY WILL GIVE YOU A LICENSE. HOWEVER, THERE ARE A COUPLE OF STIPULATIONS.1. YOU DON'T NEED AN APPOINTMENT, YOU JUST WALK IN AND TAKE A NUMBER. 2. PERMANENT U.S. RESIDENTS GET A LICENSE THAT IS GOOD FOR ABOUT 25 YEARS(UNBELIEVEABLE, BUT TRUE.) YOU ON THE OTHER HAND, WILL NOT GET ONE FOR THAT LONG. YOURS WILL BE FOR 3 OR 4 YEARS. OTHER THAN THAT, IT IS A BAD PLACE TO DRIVE, BECAUSE SINCE ABOUT 1985 MILLIONS OF CALIFORNIANS HAVE MOVED THERE, AND BROUGHT THEIR BAD DRIVING SKILLS WITH THEM. THEY ALSO BROUGHT THEIR CRIME AND OTHER ASSOCIATED FILTH. THAT'S WHY I LEFT TO LIVE OVERSEAS.

I'd recommend calling the AZ DMV. In OH you have to make an appointment for the driving test.
