I cant believe this family...

especially this kid. He signed everything then all of a sudden he thought he wouldnt have to take orders and he wasnt going to get yelled at in boot camp..Everyone knows that without even talking to the recruiter.

Joining the military is not the sort of thing where you talk to the recruiter one day and the next day you are in a uniform.....There is a long drown out procedure what gives you pretty of time to think out what you are going....I first saw the recruiter in Aug 01 and didnt ship till Nov 01 and thats because I quick shipped.

To be honest this disgust me to no end, before joining he is warned counceled and all that and still now he want to pull back, thats what happens when greed gets the best of you and then you take a decision harshly, yeah we all make our mistakes but if you make a mistake face the consequences and don't wuss out...

33,000 calls for the same situation, and they (you) single out one immigrant from El Salvador?

Recruiters often lie or conceal truth in order to sway young men to sign up. This has been going on since the inception of the American military. Ask any Viet Nam veteran!

I'm sure there's more to the story than was printed.
Newspapers often lie or conceal truth, too.

Just be glad he probably won't be serving.

Obviousy he thought he was going to get a paycheck for nothing?and college assistance on top of that. The government in the USA should re enact the draft,it would seperate the men from the boys.and not to mention prison over crowding..Job training and a sense of responsibility,is nothing but a plus.

Did you see this part.. "The GI Rights Hotline, a consortium that counsels soldiers, got 33,000 calls last year, according to Sam Diener, a Massachusetts counselor who co-founded the organization. About one-third of those calls came from either enlistees or their families, asking about how to back out of the military's delayed entry program."

It's not only him ya know.. I agree he should just toughen up and go. I don't see why it's such a big deal though.. When I went to Basic they asked who wanted out.. Only one said they did, he ended up changing his mind due to drill sgt pressure anyway. But if they're going to let you out during basic, why not just let this cat out before he goes?

i dont agree with you here. people change their minds, and this guy has realised that hes made a wrong decision that could get him killed. these ******** recruiters will say anything to get you to join. theyll be all smiles " yeah the army's great you get to do this and this and blah blah." there should be a cooling off period of 2 months or so.

i would tell the person in charge that im crazy and like to torture people.

I remember a gentleman saying once that the military was "the best mistake he ever made". He signed up, then found out that he didn't like it. But it taught him things that would benefit him greatly upon his return to the civilian world. It also provided him with fantastic benefits.

personally I think they need to give him a dihonorable discharge, he does not want to face the obligation and concequences of joining the military, then let him face the concequences of his actions in trying to get out. give him a dishonorable discharge and see how far he gets in life. like the old saying, you made your bed now lay in it...you reap what you sow.

Do you 'really want' this idiot in your military forces. He would be a danger to his fellow soldiers

It pisses me off that they call him a "soldier". He doesn't deserve that privilege!
