Worm the cat. If the cat is healthy, it will gain weight. Good quality food is a must also.

If you feed him on demand now you will be making a rod for your own back as he will expect this in the future when he's back to full health! And don't over feed him now as you could do more harm than good!! Give your local vet a call for advice... advice should be free. Most adult cats eat approx 1 tin of cat food a day. Ration out the servings to 2 or 3 a day and make sure he has some dry food to crunch on too and plenty of fresh water every day. You will soon see scraggy stray turn into a good healthy cat. It would be a good idea to get him a check up with the vet though as soon as you can. All the best xxx

It is very kind of you to take in this stray! I'd say that as long as he is putting on weight steadily, you need not try to fatten him up faster, since abrupt weight change is unhealthy, both for humans and cats. However, if after two weeks of free-feeding, the cat still has not put on any weight, try adding a small amount (two tablespoons) of vegetable oil to his food. And remember, it's easy to go overboard -- it's good of you to help the cat reach a healthy weight, but don't let him get TOO fat! (:

There is no good way to fatten him up fast. Letting him over eat is not good, a little more than recommended is fine until he gets his weight up. He also may have some health issues and probably has worms. You should take him to the vet.
Nice of you to take care of a homeless kitty!!!

Just give him some canned cat food. They like that more so than the dry. I wouldn't try to fatten him up too quickly. Just make sure he has lots of fresh water, so that he will stay hydrated.

Check at your local pet store for cat milk. My cats love it; it is lactose-free and great for them. Do not give your cat real milk; it will give him the runs because cats can't digest it.
We took in a starving stray 2 years ago; we gave him that cat milk and uncooked hamburger meat and he is now a very healthy boy. just make sure when he gets to a good weight you cut back on his portions or he will eat himself fat.
According to Dr. Randy Kidd, the use of garlic, as well as onions, shallots, and chives, has been shown to cause damage to feline red blood cells which can result in hemolytic anemia and eventual death. Raw garlic and onions can also cause ulcers and irritation of the mouth, esophagus and stomach.
His recommendation: avoid giving garlic and onions to your cat!

He will get sick if you over feed him. Just let him eat what he wants and he will reach his best weight. Have you taken him to the vet for shots? Ask the vet about how to feed the cat. Do not give cats milk. It is bad for them although most people don't know that.

wet food. This will be easy for him to eat until you find out what shape his teeth are in.
