Yes you can. I found this out accidentally. One day my niece and nephew were out back on my deck eating some watermelon. They were spitting the seeds in this little space in front of the deck where some flowers were planted. In a few months little plants started to grow. Eventually they sprouted little watermelons on them. We let them grow until they were a decent size as far as watermelons go. I let them come over and pick the melon that they had planted without even knowing about it. It was sweet and juicy! Now at the beginning of each planting season we buy a watermelon, and sit out on the deck, and enjoy "planting" a new crop of melons.

Depends on the climate. I did once in Philly and got hundreds of delicious, but tiny watermelons.

Yes unless you have really poor soil then you will need to fertilize. Watermelons like it really hot, lots of water and good drainage.

It depends on where you live, and what kind of soil that you have. If you have very sandy soil, then go for it. But, if you have a clay type soil like me, then you might not have the best of luck. Good-Luck!
