My husband is from Oz (Melbourne) and from what I've experienced from being there and now having friends and family there, they usually have most things that are found in the UK, and vice versa. Except for things like Vegemite, but that stuff is gross anyway so it's a good thing. ;)
Most parents will like things that they need - talk to your daughter in a conversation that wont' give away that you're trying to find out what they need - what kind of nappies, etc. are they using? Most new parents need LOTS of baby supplies. Wait until you get there, buy what they NEED, and then also offer to stay home with the new baby boy so they can have a night out to themselves to do whatever they want and come home whatever time they want. Or, if you're staying long enough and this works (and you're bold enough) let them get a weekend away. Your gift will be chock-full of things they need on numerous levels and they will love you for it!! 8)

If you're going to Australia it would be nice to get them something from where you are. That way every time they look at the gift they would think of you.
It's always nice to have something you can hang on the wall, then every time they see it, it would prompt the memory response of, you, the givers.
My wall is covered with memorabilia, and every time I look, it evokes a memory of how I got it.
