Your optometrist will determine a wear schedule for you. They base this on the lenses they prescribe for you and some factors that are unique to your eyes. This is why you should change them according to the wear schedule prescribed for you:
Compare contact lenses with a sponge - you can use it for a while but eventually you know it has absorbed some germs that aren't coming out - so you replace them. That's one of the top reasons you have limits on how long you wear your contact lenses. As these things build up in your lenses, they become less permeable to oxygen. This decrease in oxygen can cause corneal neovascularization and make your corneal epithelium weaker and therefore, more susceptible to infection.
You don't go without brushing your teeth because you don't want a cavity (at least I hope), don't abuse your contact lenses because you don't want an eye infection.

I'm sure you should just follow the manufacturers directions, or contact your eye doctor to find out. My girl wears soft contacts and she wears hers like four months at a time, and only cleaning them when she can't see. I hate that she does that. Don't wear your contacts longer then they're meant to be worn. You'll ruin your eyes.

depends on the contacts. How much oxygen do they let in. Some of the newer ones are really good you can wear them all day. Also there are a few out that you can sleep in ( not every night ) Usually the ones you can wear longer are the every day or every 2 week disposible ones.
