Hey, I just recently started lifting dumbells to build some arm muscle. I was talking to one of my friends and he said that you should do about 8-10 reps with your heaviest weight and thats all. I was under the impression that the more you did the better and had been doing many more than that for the last few days. Is doing more than about 10 reps for each arm overkill? Will it not make any difference? Thanks

Never start lifting weights with the heaviest weight you have that is the fastest way to pull your muscles. Start with something you fell comfortable with and lift them as many times as you can until you fell a burning in your arm then do it in the other arm 2 times a day and you will start to get nice arms but you cant over do it or you will pull your muscles then you cant life anything.

You want to do 3 sets. Take the bicep curls for instance. You want to pyramid the sets. The 1st set is your lightest weight at 12 reps. Your second set is heavier at 10 reps. Your 3rd set is your heaviest weight and only 8 reps.
This is to get some nice muscle tone, and to build alittle muscle.
