What make this happen? How can I prevent it from happening again they are painful and look very ugly.

it's a bunion and caused by either poor fitting shoes, high heels and also it is hereditary. See a podiatrist & they will do surgery on it. I had both done & am so pleased with the results. Feet look & feel great!
