You are really trying to upset those German engineers. Mercedes will not approve of you modifying their automobile. You can't even bring it in for service dirty. They are very picky. Ask your service rep before changing the air in the tires.

Try this test:
Put your radio on AM,tune "between stations" to a blank spot,
turn up the volume pretty high,put your hands around the antenna
(circle it) with out touching it.Listen for "feed back" if you have it
there is"bad ground" / poor connection.
Of course check the input of the lead into your unit first.

I had a similar problem when i bought a new Porsche. All you need to do is take it to M-BENZ certified dealership or repair shop and either get it replaced with a stronger one like I did that was porsche certified or ask for them to buy the antenna and place it on for you and just pay for the antenna and labor.

That don`t matter it`s the stock deck that sucks like every other factory stereo.That`s why i just get a good aftermarket stereo and it`s problem solved.
