I heard they were good at first. Then I heard that smaller type dogs were choking on them and then on the news I heard that dogs were getting ill or dying from them because they wouldn't chew them up properly before swallowing them and they wouldn't digest well. On the news, they said if you give them to your dog you were supposed to watch them or something but how can you do that? I think it's better off not using that product.

There are dangers with any dog treats, they used to say that rawhide was dangerous.
Basically the problem is that IF the dog does not chew through the greenie or rawhide properly, then a large piece can lodge itself in the intestine or bowel.
If you think of it, alot of treats can do this.

I like giving my dog natural treats, pig ears or cow hooves.
If you are interested in oral care, you can also consider Science Diet Oral Care food. I use it as treats, the dogs love the taste and the kibbles break up and clean the gums as well.

Greenies® are not appropriate for all dogs. The feeding directions state that Greenies® should not be fed to dogs less than six months old, dogs less than five pounds, and dogs who gulp food and treats

The important thing to know about greenies are two things:
1. Pet to product ratio Don't give a small dog a medium greenie, and so on.
2. Don't give them to often.

The problem with greenies if you give a dog more that the digestive system can handle, the dog becomes impacted, and a blockage occurs with requires surgery. And if the problem of blockage occurs and goes unnoticed, then death ensues.

I personally stay away from them.

Well both ate true! Greenies are great for your dogs teeth. The only problem is they can and probably will kill your dog. There seems to be a problem with them that causes them to be indigestible. So they become a ball embedded in your dogs bowels causing an obstruction. It's happened to hundreds of dogs and I would advise you to never give them to your dogs. Often the dog can be saved by surgery but if it's not caught in time or if the bowel leaks after surgery there's major trouble.

OK, here is the scoop on greenies, they are meant to be gnawed on over time by the dog. They are not meant to be eaten. Eaten in large chunks they can cause blockages. If they are gnawed into small pieces over time they are fine.

Don't give these to large dogs. Smaller dogs won't swallow them practically whole, my little dogs love them and they last a while. My Rottweiler swallows them in three bites and throws them up.

Don't give small hard treats to large dogs.
