depends how big the gap is! if its the size of the grand canyon, filling the space with filling material/crowns can make your teeth look grotesquely wide. Not to mention all the food will get caught under the ledge making your gums very unhealthy!
Generally for good natural teeth I'd really consider getting braces or some sort of orthodontics as this will give you the healthiest result. Many non orthodontic options require cutting the tooth back quite alot. If they already are heavily filled than go for it, but cutting them back is damage that can't grow back.
Of course there are other things you need to weigh up, but without looking at your mouth, its the best i can offer.

Yes, they could bond the gaps closed using a tooth colored filling material. It is a good option to fill in gaps. The cost would depend on the dentist and the area you live in.

Try invisalign. I think they are just as much as braces. And depending on the size of your gap, they could also crown them. Crowns to fix a gap would be considered cosmetic, so most dental insurances wouldn't cover it. I think in my neck of the woods (San Francisco Bay Area) a crown can cost you anywhere from $600-1200.

You can get an estimate from your dentist. I have several spaces between many of my teeth and some small chips in a few teeth (from grinding at night). He suggested veneers or braces. His estimate for veneers, fixing the chips and whitening was $8800.00 so - not cheap!

When they were prepping my sons mouth for a retainer, he had to wear spacers in the back of is teeth for a cuple of weeks, and that shifted his teeth! it was pretty cool!

Yea, I'm pretty sure that that is possible, but it would cost well over a couple $1,000.
