According to the Bible, only one type of sin cannot be forgiven : Deliberately and repeatedly denying the Holy spirit's conviction of sin....this is the sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit...

the sin of taking the Name of the Lord in vain is not the unforgivable sin.....though it is one of the commandments.....

It is ironic that anyone who worries about having committed the unpardonable sin, has not committed it...the very proof being, he is concerned about that sin....a reprobate mind is the main symptom in a person who commits unforgivable sin...

God bless you....

It is the one called blasphemy of the holy spirit. There are many opinions on what this means, however, when we understand that God will forgive all sins but this one yet God regards all sin as equally wrong and that God has no 'grades of sin', then we must realise that it is not a matter of God not being willing, it is a matter of the conditions for His forgiveness of this one sin not being there. If one is born again of God's spirit, that person is filled with that spirit and sealed with it so that it cannot be lost. The only thing that could possibly equal this on the other side is to born again of the spirit of the serpent. Or to be somehow sealed with unholy spirit. Then this would be unforgivable. However, that is merely what I have been once taught. I do not know if it is true or false and I have never found it in the bible.

Praise God you are a Christian. You can't do the unforgiveable sin. That's right you are saved in the fold of a loving Saviour and he's never going to let you go. The unforgiveable is when somebody hear's the Gosple and they they know the truth and yet they refuse to turn away from their sin. They bring it on themselves. You on the other hand haven't done this so stop worrying, and you'll never do it Praise the Lord.
Welcome to the family sis.

This point in the bible relates to Paul's advice in written form to a people whom he was reqiuired to 'spread the word of Christ'. He obviously felt these people required help, and thus repeated the doctrine of Moses (obviously feeling the old school approach was necessary). I find parts of it naive, parts cumbersome, the externalisation of the 'evil one' is just appointing a scapegoat. Obviously though, these techniques were designed to convert the attitudes of people, so you must not read into passages so literally, this goes for any part of the bible. The bible is a metaphorical illustration to encourage illumination and freedom, not fear and oppression which is the effect of believing the dogma that you are interpreting.
The line 30 chapter 4 Ephesians in the 'Good News Bible' must be different to yours..."And do not make God's Holy Spirit Sad; for the spirit is God's mark of ownership on you, a guarantee that the Day will come when God willset you free". There was no mention before of sin, but there were several references to bad habits that people had...the message of 'love thy neighbour' is clear. The message is goodness equals freedom.
Disconcertingly though, in parallel with the idea of God's ownership of us, Paul refers in the letter to the Ephesians to being held 'captive' in Christ's service which is ironic for someone preaching the way of freedom is his way !(4:1). So, use your dissemination and take into account the time/attitudes, the fact that the passage like the rest of the bible is a 3rd or 4th hand account at least and read the tone of the message, not the words to form a clear understanding.
I find those with rigid morbid views very disconcerting (maybe a bit thick), and irritating if they feel they have to preach them.
But I wish you well, and hope you can come to an understanding and insight that is comfortable for you.

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. what is blasphemy? its simply means a behaviuor or language that insults or shows a lack of respect for God (ref Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary). If you know the person of the Holy Spirit, you will understand why its unforgivable. Some of those things that will be deemed blasphemy are foul words, lurid thoughts, insults, lies etc. directed against the Holy Spirit. The H.S. is Gods' person. if you understand from the perspective that mans spirit belongs to God and is not held accountable for any of mans actions (its the soul that sins), then you will see how pure the H.S. is and why God will hold a blasphemer accountable; even in the years after death.

Looks like the majority have gone for the 'Holy Spirit' thing, and all Christians, no other religion believes that Jesus was God, that Jesus was also his own Son, and on top of that he was the Holy ghost, (the Trinity)! Most merely believe Jesus was a great prophet!
Christians are the only religious group that believe all the other BS, this means all other religions are guilty of committing the unforgivable sin?
Very strange isn't it ??
But having now dismissed all religions bar one as being 'sinners' it only leaves the Christians to deal with, that shouldn't take much sorting!

Grieving the Holy Spirit is not it, but is a Christian that is doing those things he mentions in the other verses. I think Heb 6 explains it the best, also see Heb 10 :26-31. It is receiving the knowledge of the truth of their sin and the good news of salvation in Christ and knowingly refusing it for a life of sin. It is the Holy Spirit that has given them this understanding that they reject and He is the Spirit of Truth.

I was told about this "denying the holy spirit etc." being the only unforgivable sin during my confirmation lessons when I was 13. Being 13, I immediately denied the holy spirit etc. Knowing I was damned from that moment on was a great comfort to me, as it demonstrated the utter absurdity of the whole religion. I mean, your sky pixie damns me because of an instinctive, childish reaction to do what I'm told not to do? What a great, compassionate sky pixie...

Matt.12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
Matt.12:32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
