The only way you can get it back is to maybe talk to others who have the same accent - like maybe your parents/family. Usually when you talk to people who speak how you are used to speaking it all comes back in a snap.

The easiest way to get any accent back is to watch movies or tv shows with characters all speaking in the tongue you want to refresh. Make sure that the actors are actually natives, otherwise you'll get a Hollywood version of the brogue. Secondly, listen to Scottish music. Thirdly, but probably the best, go to places where Scottish or Gaelic music is performed, and strike up a friendship with a fellow Scott.

This proccess is called Naturalisation. When we are around people who talk with a different accent, we tend to get them impressed on us. Its mostly automatic. By staying exposed to scottish voices, you can prevent this happening.

When I am in France, I sound more French than British because I learnt to speak french through Naturalisation, but when I come back to Glasgow, I have transformed in the air back to my Glaswegian tone. I wonder what would happen if I took the Eurosta instd. tee-hee.

By the way, Jersey is a dependant of the UK and not France.

Play Billy Connolly CDs back to back, watch River City (you'll get BBC1 Scotland on Sky), buy one of the many books on Glesca Patter - but maybe you're from Embra! Aberdeen! Dundee! Pittenweem or Invercockieleekie! Jings, Crivvens and help ma Boab!!!
Adam McDougall has lots of CDs with the like of The Jeely Piece Song and Cholesterol which should strike a chord for a Bonnie Lassie.

Im with u on that one. I'm English and living in Scotland not only has my accent changed slightly but also picked up scottish words and slang. I' also want to retain my accent. It's hard when u r surrounded by others with a different accent to ur own

It's never gone away. By the way, I love a Scottish accent! If you have friends or family back in Scotland, call them as much as you can. A few times doing this
will have your accent back. Also, practice as much as you can, just as a singer does. Remember, James Earl Jones had a horrible stutter which he overcame with practice, and just listen to that voice today!!

i ought to may favor to declare that the British and the Scottish have an quite strong language. they're both diverse from the US in optimal places. i'm from New Orleans, yet i surely like the British. The Scottish accent is phenomenal too. i surely favor to take heed to each man or woman with new accents. subsequently, i surely do now no longer go with people's accents.

Much loved by whom? If you are so worried about losing that accent of yours you could always return to your native land .Jersey is a Crown Dependency of the U.K. so let's have less of the "F" word if you don't mind !

There is no substitute for a few weeks each year listening to that lovely lilt. That is how I maintain my awful Texas twang 20 years after having left the States.
