The "sophisticated nerd" is the latest trend this summer for men. Marc Jacobs, and Alexander McQueen are just two of the well known designers that have used this look for their summer runway shows. It's a variation of the preppy style that was so hot in the early 80's and 60's.

The key to wearing the look is that the short sleeved shirt has to fit your body closely (a buff chest helps), a skinny tie (solid, a rep stripe), a pair of khakis, or solid pastel, lower-waisted, tapered pants (NOT jeans) and, most of all thick black (designer) glasses.

Try it out and see if you can rock this style and make it yours!

I'm definitly attracted to that look if it is worn with the right pants and accessories. You'll look very "Office Space" if you just wear khakis with it...but if you wear some Dickies, cool shoes, and make sure that the color of the tie and the shirt looks nice together, it could work. I knew a guy who always wore a plaid short-sleeved shirt and a vintage tie that didn't match with brown corduroys and he looked very sexy in a nerdy kind of way. I like that! If you're going to wear a plain-colored shirt, get an awesome 70's-style tie. Seriously!

When I think semi-casual for guys I tend to think of polo shirt and khaki pants with a light weight blazer/jacket thrown in. If you don't like polo shirts you could go with a really top quality short-sleeved t-shirt or the short sleeve dress shirt open at the neck(but please not a white one). Short sleeve shirt with tie screams office boy to me!

YES! Bad look lol. If you insist on wearing a short sleeve dress short loose the tie and leave one button open. But I don't recommend the short sleeve dress shirt lol.

A shirt and tie definitely is not bad taste for a dude......the dress could be...I would need to see it. If it's down tastefully meaning not flower patterns and stuff like that. A solid color would be O.K. I think. Like I said I would need to see the dress.

get one of those old retro bowling shirts or Hawaiian shirts - short sleeves and a tie is like running shorts with knee highs (in my opinion) GROSS

I favor short length on females :) BQ: My hair is as a lot as my shoulder blades...i do not comprehend if that is lengthy or short. i'd say medium :) unnecessary statement: i'm a brunette to boot! ^^

I, personally, like it. I'm a huge Billie fan. But it really depends, only certain people can pull it off.
