Because it feeds their ego. They aren't thinking about their girlfriends feelings just about themselves. Sometimes girls can be overly sensitive and overreact to innocent situations. So, it all depends on the dynamics of the relationship and the personalities involved.

It's an ego thing and has absolutely nothing to do with real love. Guys feel great because that makes them feel like they have all that power---when in reality the girls are jealous because of a posession thing.(He's mine!!).
Jealous is who is looking for a reason---to fight, or to break up.
Real love is secure in itself and does not need to be jealous....
