My mom was/is a cool mom. She was there for us at every turn, she allowed us to choose our own friends, and make our own mistakes providing those mistakes did not include hurting ourselves or others. She was quick to correct us when we "talked out of place" and to praise us when we "went beyond" what was expected of us. She always made time to listen to what we had to say and did not judge us when our views conflicted with hers. She treated us as individuals, she taught us to respect our elders as well as our peers and to pave the way for those younger than us so that the world may be a better place for those who come after we're gone. That's what makes a "cool" mom.

One genuinely listens and tries to help but can step back and let a child learn from their mistakes on occasion. And does not gloat or say I told you so when that child makes a mistake that you knew they would make. She also must not be afraid to be Mom and step in and save that child at times from their own foolishness. Sometimes children want you to stop them. This is who my mother is and who I try to be for my children. Hope it is sufficient.

Don't set the age of dating to 35. Don't try and intimidate any of her friends. Always have your ears listenin and try and remember what it was like when you started to ask your parents about things growing up.
Don't try too hard, you dress appropriate to your age and let your kids do the same (but if your daughter starts to dress like a slut, that's when its ok to send her back upstairs to change)

My mom knew everything about me. Cool. She did the chocolate on the face catch you lying trick on me when I was about three so I can't be dishonest without giving myself away. (I can't lie well.) And, she came to every game I ever played in. (Ice Hockey) and she was loud, and always cheered me on! (I was good, but sometimes we would lose anyway.) She cried at my baptism. She cried at my wedding, she held me through my divorce.
When my dad died, (her husband for over 40 years) we were going to pick him up, (his remains) and she told me the whole story about where and how they had met. She had moxy, and a libido.
The coolest thing about my mom, was everyone called her Honey. Everyone but us kids, (we called her mom) and when we went to cast their ashes a couple of years ago, I found out why, she was very sweet, and everyone loved her. (And my pop, by the way, was cool too!)
That's about it. She Loved my dad, and he loved her. But he had the easy part. She was cool, because she was so easy to love! Peace. :)
