CNN had a story on this and the answer was the egg. An animal does not change species going from a fetus stage in the egg to an adult, the chicken. Thus, the first chicken had to come from the first chicken egg.

The chicken is definitely a chicken - The egg is only potentially a chicken.
Therefore the chicken came first.

Who would lay the egg if the chicken didn't come first; not to mention who would sit on the egg to hatch if the chicken didn't come first? Hmmm?

God created animals first, hence not being any eggs, so i would go with the chicken!
Plus, there wouldn't be any chickens to lay an egg if you think about it!

Eggs of course, because dinosaurs and fish came before chickens and they laid eggs.
