CNN had a story on this and the answer was the egg. An animal does not change species going from a fetus stage in the egg to an adult, the chicken. Thus, the first chicken had to come from the first chicken egg.

God created animals first, hence not being any eggs, so i would go with the chicken!
Plus, there wouldn't be any chickens to lay an egg if you think about it!
