Greater London is a county of its own.
However, as well as being the capital city of England, London has been extending across over counties for many years, eating into other counties such as Kent, Essex, Hertfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Surrey and Middlesex.
Although some places consider Greater London as part of the county of Middlesex.
Hope this is what you were looking for. x x

Contary to some answers on this web site, London is NOT ONLY the Capital of England - it is the Capital of the United Kingdom. It is reputedly the largest city in the world and is too sprawling to be contained in a county. Other London's across the world are merely named after the great city, therefore I was surprised to see people giving answers such as Canada, usa ,England!

It is not in a county. Greater London covers many counties such as Surrey, Kent, Essex, Middlesex, Herts, Bucks, Berks.
Counties are less relevant now they have unitary authorities in local government. Of course, London at one stage was a county in its own right.
Counties are only administrative boundaries
