Here's what I think: I don't understand how people can say that the bible is the "literal word of God'. Does this mean that God spoke all the words to someone who wrote them down? Historically, the texts that form the bible were written hundreds of years after the events described. Then in the 1400s (?) there was a council where a group of men decided which books were to be included in the bible and which were not. How about translations? How many times have the texts in the bible been translated and why would the King James version be literally correct when scholars have studied the originals and generated different versions? The gospel, as told in the bible, is true of course, but the book itself is not literally perfect.

The Book of Mormon was translated directly from the plates on which the original authors wrote.

I was an Evanghelical Christian who converted to a Mormon Christian ten years ago. Having been a Christian most of my life I know the Bible very well and the Book of Mormon less well. For this reason I tend to feel more confident when studying the Bible, although with the Sunday School course of study this year being the Old Testament it has been interesting coming across bits that are evidently mistranslations - like getting the name of one of David's wives wrong, for example. These things don't seem to happen with the Book of Mormon simply because it has been through far fewer scribes and translators.

I don't think one is better than the other. I love the Bible and read it every day, but I also love the Book of Mormon because it is still so fresh and new to me, and because it supports the Bible.

This is a very popular anti-Mormon video that's going around right now. The following link is to an article that addresses the the issue from the lds perspective.

http://www.fairlds.org/Bible/Bible_vs_the_Book_of_Mormon_Video.html

As for your question, neither is "better," than the other. God never intended it to be an "either/or" type of issue. The Book of Mormon was intended to prove the truthfulness of the bible (1Nephi 13:40). Chapter 13 of 1st Nephi (particularly verses 20-40) and Chapter 29 of 2nd Nephi deal a lot with the Bible vs Book of Mormon question.

I love to read and study both. The more I do the more I realize there is no contradiction between the two.

Most importantly, however, is that you ask God Himself. We, as most people do, tend to try and rely on our own understanding and forget to take our questions to the source of all knowledge.

Hope this helps.

The video wouldn't play on my computer. So I'm sorry that I can't tell you what I think of the video.

As for what I think about the Bible and the Book of Mormon, I think they are both equally important to have. The Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It's purpose is to be a second witness that Jesus is real and to be a second witness to his earthly ministry.

I tend to think the Book of Mormon is more correct simply because it has gone through less translation than the Bible. There are a few versions of the Bible but there is only one version of the Book of Mormon. (I have also spent many hours studying and praying about the Book of Mormon to know if it's true. And yes, I know it's true).

Just remember that testimony comes from the Holy Ghost. Remember in Moroni 10:4&5 that readers are advised to ask God if the Book of Mormon is true. Don't let anyone decide what you will or will not believe. Let God tell you what's true. Then you can make that decision for yourself.

The Book of Mormon is a volume of holy scripture comparable to the Bible. It is a record of God’s dealings with the ancient inhabitants of the Americas and contains, as does the Bible, the fulness of the everlasting gospel.
Concerning this record the Prophet Joseph Smith said: “I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.”

These two quotes are taken from the Introduction to the Book of Mormon. We believe that The Bible and The Book of Mormon both contain the fulness of the gospel. But we believe that there are mistranslations in the Bible that have taken away plain and precious truths. The Book of Mormon has only been translated once and it was through the power of God, not man. That is why it is the most correct of any book.

I'm not a Mormon or a Christian, so I think I can be objective.

The video doesn't really say anything. It seems to just be a preview to some other video.

I think both books are largely based upon oral history and mythology. In terms of real history that can be corraborated by historians and archeology, I would give the Bible a C- for historical accuracy. On the other hand, I would give the Book of Mormon an F for historical accuracy. The independent verification just isn't there.

I always like the story in the Mormons Bible, very interesting. Especially that part about the war, and how they fight.

But it remains as a myth, for such battle does not exist in American soil as the Mormons claim.

Jospeh Smith is such a violence man, and a womaniser, how can his book on Mormon be truth?

Mormons Book are written thru' a piece of glass, and eventually disappear. Err. . . sound fishy to me.

Moreover, why must word of God be written in Egyptian? They have tortured the Jews for so many years. Why will God's angel be giving the golden plate in Egyptian language, and not Hebrew? Funny right?

Well, as I have said, take it as story will be fine. I still perfer my good olf bible. Anytime.

I know you asked for Mormons only, so I am sorry for answering, but to my understanding the Book of Mormon is supposed to be another book of the Bible, a continuation of it and so it isn't more or less correct, it is supposed to be the same book.

I myself would like to learn more about Mormonism. I'm very interested in all religions, I'm a christian but I don't know that much about this version of Christianity. If you happen to find out more, if you might email me.

The fact that the history of the Mormons is not documented at all apart from 150 years ago. The people that are mentioned in the book of Mormon never existed. No archeology prove. They get embarrassed if you bring it up.

The Book of Mormon is the more correct, as it has only been translated ONCE, as opposed to the Bible which has been translated, and re-translated, and re-translated, and turned into Modern English, etc.
