My family and i went to Pennsylvania about 2 or 3 weeks ago, and we all got bug bites, but my mom got affected the worst. Mine and my dad's went away after a few days, but my mom's got worse. They turned into big, swollen, red welts that she says hurts and itches really badly. We've tried cortozone, all those itching medicines, and neosporine (sp?). And now we're not sure if it was really mosquitoes that bit her. Are there any other bugs that can do that? And is it an allergic reaction? What should we do to help her?

Also, my mom went on a hay ride, and she said it also irritated her skin and got tiny bumps, but ti think they went away. Do you think the hay made the bites worse?

It sounds like bed bug bites to me. They are much more common than you think. I travel a lot and most hotels have bedbugs. I just hope that you did not bring any home with you. They like to travel in luggage and they are nearly impossible to get rid of.

Some people(like me) are badly allergic to them. When I get bitten, it takes months for mine to go away.

Here is a link where you can read a little more about them. I am not advocating the product on this link because I don't know anything about it, but it has a lot of information about bed bugs. Just do a Yahoo search on bed bugs to see other pictures of the bites.

Hope she feel better soon.

often that does happen with some bug bites. Try benadryl cream or the oral suspension which may help the reaction. If any other symptoms come up like a fever i would go to the doctor. If they also don't clear up in a week i woud go to the doctor.

Mosquito bites does not cause allergy. Mosquitoes transmit poisonous substance when they bite, that causes the itchiness. Hydrocortizone for local application would help.

Ants bite and transmit the substance formic acid which causes urticaria. Just the same with mosquito bits.

the same thing happened to me about a year ago. i went to the nurse at school and she said i was probably allergic. she put some stuff on them (don't remember what it was) for itching and told me to just not scratch them and they would go away. maybe she should see a doctor..
