Are you talking about bumper to bumper traffic or while moving at a clip?
In the former push it over to the right (unless you have a wide enough road shoulder on the left), in the latter case use the remaining speed to get to your right and off the road.
I had a similar thing once, when in Germany I lost my right rear tire tread at 112mph. Other saw my tread take off across the highway, and I just eased over to my right and let the car come to a gradual halt (no brakes!) on the right shoulder

you should try to move your car to as close to the middle divider as possible, call a tow truck, or chp will find you, usually other drivers will report a stalled car, also there are tons of cameras on the freeways

If you can get it off the road, do it.
If you can't, turn on the flashers, GET OUT and get on the other side of the highway barrier, UP TRAFFIC from your car - if there is an accident, you are less likely to get hurt.

In Los Angeles, I would not get out! Just turn your 4 way flashers on and CHP will be there soon.
