Cats will come when you call them, and some will play fetch.

Cats must be socialized, from the earliest possible age, for the best results. It takes patience. LOTS of patience.

Earning their trust is the first hurdle!

They are very funny, friendly, intelligent, and affectionate. Observe them. Watch to see how they operate, and how their minds work.

It is true that cats do not have the same rabid desire to please as dogs do. But they can be trained! Use treats and affection.

They learn what you approve of, and what you don't. Some you simply have to speak to severely (or hiss at them!), others won't stop naughty behavior until you are within arms-reach :-))

A squirt bottle is a good idea for deterring undesirable behavior. All I have to do is pick mine up, and the cats FLY! :-))

Cats need motivation to train. Treats work well. I once trained a cat to beg, sit and down, no kidding! The downside is it takes consistent training. Lots of luck

Cats can be trained, but it is much harder then working with a dog. If you merely want to teach and cat to stay off of certain spaces, I recommend and squirt bottle. I taught my sister's cat, when babysitting, that she could not sit on the kitchen table or counter.

Well you first have to understand the cat trains you not the other way around. You are there for their convenience and if they like you they will stick around and let you feed them and pet them and even once in a while might purr. I have 2 o'the beasties and they are truly spoiled. But training them? Havent figured that one out yet.

Cats are real good at training their owners. My Ben lets me share my computer chair with him. Yesterday he gave me a list of cat food flavors and had be go to WalMart for them.
