they own more cats/dogs than people who can afford to take their animals to the vet? these people are a big part of the pet overpopulation. in my own personal opinion, if you can't afford to spay/neuter your pet or etc., then you have absolutly no business owning one. I don't care if you are attached to them or not. what's ya'lls opinion?

Well they can afford the computer, cigs and beer. They can afford things they NEED, but they often think the pets are something that you do not spend money on, especially if you can get it low cost or free!!!!!

Studies have shown these people are considered "hoarders" it's considered a serious problem that affects the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of animals each year. It's considered a sickness comparable to compulsive obsessive disorder. They truly believe any stray they find would be better off living with them in squalor than being rescued, adopted or even euthanized. Others believe the risk of spay/neuter surgery isn't worth the risk, not founded, but that's what they believe. It's the average middle class person that has the problem with spay/neutering their pets. Most spay/neuter programs require you to be low income, so the middle class just don't qualify, therefore, it's costly to have the surgery done. No the big part of the problem is the typical back yard breeder who gets a dog or cat with the intentions of breeding to create a little extra income. They soon discovery finding homes for the little ones requires too much work so they either keep them, dump them or wait until the get pregnant and shuffle them off to the nearest shelter. Or the person that wants their kids to experience the birth of kittens and puppies....get real watch a video. Or the puppy mill that pumps out hundreds of dogs a year and that's just one mill because unknowingly people insist on buying from pet stores instead of shelters or rescues. I do agree, before anyone even considers getting a dog or cat they should know the animal must be sterilized.

BTW, how many animals have you saved, adopted, spayed or neutered?

since the vets cost just about as much as a reg doc any more, some people can't afford $150 to 300 for the spaying. Telling a person to get rid of the pets, because you think the animal should be spay/neutered, that's your opinion. If there is a free or cheap clinic great. But if a person is trying to feed kids, husband and self, pay for the outrageous gas prices, plus the utilities, rent, doctor bills for the humans, dentist, eye care, plus all the Frigging extras, that I missed may you will find it in your heart, to pay for their spay and neuter jobs. Animals help relieve stress, protect our homes, and entertain the kids, you might try getting one that suits you, personally. A small dog, like a mim poodle that yaps alot.

I have 7 cats and a dog I don't have a big income to take my pets to the vet but I did see to it that they are all spayed and nuetered.I feed them and treat them for what is needed on my own without haveing to go to the vet.I agree with some of the others, just because they are not seen by a vet on a regular basses does not mean we do not love and care for our babies.BUT if they were sick and needed vet care I would find away to get the money, for instance 2 of my cats where poisoned by hartz flea products it cost over $1500 to save there lives I had to barrow that money,we all do what we can when we need to.

I totally agree with you. If you can afford a pet,but can't afford fixing it,wait until you can afford it or adopt a fixed pet from a shelter. In my case I adopted a spayed cat. I saved a cat's life and got a cat who will not help over populate cats by having kittens. If she did then I would have to find homes for the kittens, put them down or give them to a shelter. Now you have heard my opinion on the matter.

I agree in case you at the prompt are not a specialist breeder and also you don't recognize what you're doing advance the breed then you definitely ought to spay and neuter your pets. you won't be able to easily assume someone will favor them reason in the experience that they don't they are going to likely finally end up in a safeguard alongside with the different 5 million+ dogs/cats.

Everybody can have their pets neutered or spayed. In my experience almost all the cities I lived in so far offered this service for free or a small donation in order to avoid overpopulation of pets.
So this seems not to be an issue.
Not to do it is irresponsible. And also to just dump a pet when one does not want them anymore.

My mother was on disability for many years. She never met a stray cat that didn't end up living in her house (not quite squalor). She doctored their wounds, fed them, loved them, and found homes for them as quickly as she was able. Vet bills were often not in the budget. When there was a real need she would do without her meds, or sometimes groceries, to care for these cats.

There are, however, some people who should not be pet owners. Just as there are some people who should not be parents and others who should not drive cars.

I can't take responsibility for the whole world, just my little piece of it.

people who own pets and cant take them to the vet could be on hard times, i mean get a life things happen, like divorce...duh...some times it can be a stuggle just to feed them, but you love them and take care of them the best way you can. I agree that pets who are not being used to breed should be fixed, but maybe the problem is that vets charge way,way to much, i mean to get a dogs teeth cleaned can cost from 90-300 dollars. spayed or nutered 100-300 +. So if we believe you and go by your ideas only the rich would beable to have pets, get real

i am recently divorced, raisng my son alone, and i have 3 wonderful cats, and a beautiful dog. they have all been with me from 6-12 yrs, and i cant afford a vet bill, but they are very much loved, and cared for by me and my son. people have no right to judge me based on my income. it would be different if my pets were abused or starved. they are in great shape. and by the way, mine are ALL spayed/neutered, so just because someone cant afford vet bills, we are still responsible pet owners.

Maybe they fell upon hard times and cant afford to take their pet to the vet unless it is necessary. And in my opinion the animals that are left wherever because their owners no longer want them is what causes the pet population
