Sutures should stay in for 7-10 days, so they should start to fall out. If they're hanging down in your mouth they probably aren't doing a whole lot of good now, so you can trim them. I'd only trim the ones that are hanging or displaced. Did you get a set of dentures? If so, make sure that you're taking them out of your mouth at least 8 hours per day to let your tissues rest. Good luck!

That is just the way they all do I suppose. I had two teeth cut out and I had stitches and mine did the VERY same thing..It was gross..nasty..etc....I would be careful of what you put in there to trim them cuz infection control is the biggest issue at this point and if you get bacteria near the suture line there could be trouble..I would say just leave em alone. I think I played with mine with my tongue..lol..gross I know..but I was scared to cut on them...

I really feel for you. I dislike the dentists because of the pain, although things have gotten better over the years, new technology. I know nothing about trimming stitches. Maybe you can go back to your dentist and have him do it before you inadvertently touch your sore gum and do more damage.

Best bet is to follow your dentist's post surgery advice. Give him a call. Personally, I think if they are hanging down, you could trim the extra bits as long as you don't undue any stitches.

Its your mouth, u can do whatever u want. First I would wonder just how long they had been in before I would tell you to trim them.

you can trim them! if they are in sections, you can just rip 'em off, that is if it is almost off anyway!!
