It looks cool, and draws attention . . .

an artisitc statement, expressing themselves, individuality- the same reason anyone fixes their hair one way or another, or paints their nails a certain color or wears what they wear- it's just that different colored hair is less commonly seen and it is a lot more obvious than oddly colored nails so it can be shocking.
Personally, I think it is silly, but fortunately most kids outgrow their need for that kind of attention or statement. I never did anything really outrageous but I look back at teen pics of myself and think what on earth was I thinking, I mean what on earth could have possessed me to wear neon colors or paint my fingernails purple! LOL!!!
It's fun for a little while and fortunately, unlike a tattoo, it grows out!

hate to say this but it's the same reason we have different hair styles and different fashions and different ideas be cuz we as Americans have those choices. i have 2 boys 12 and 4 and if they want green, blue or pink hair it's fine with me as long as it's not the same shade of pink i have lol. i would rather have then try out different hair colors and styles and different fashions rather then drugs or alcohol

I used to dye my hair every week a different color. It was all about expressing my indaviduality (plus my older brother hated it and that made me laugh). Regretably I am balding now and I wonder if all that coloring has a lot to do with it. Something for the youth to ponder.

Bottom line answer:

Because they think that "to be themselves" they have to annoy their parents and dismiss common sense. They can't be happy with what they are so they use something else to hide it.

Same holds for:
Piercings (exception, earlobe), tattoos, odd fingernail polish, excessive or inappropriate makeup and a bunch of other "self-expression" items, which do nothing but express "stupidity".

because it's fun, why not?? It's not like they're going to have that color for the rest of their life. & you shouldn't judge someone by the color of their hair. Just because their hair is funky color doesn't mean they aren't intellegent people.

I have magenta hightlights in my hair, & I graduated at the top of my cosmetology class. I'm also 26, not a kid!! You need to learn how to accept people for who they are not what they look like.

Everyone has a sense of personal expression. Many people see these type of kids as outcasts, but I view them only as expressing who they want to be. Just as you and I, they too have the right to dress and look as they wish.

because its fun!

even us older people consider it from time to time..... we just usually are too chicken about what others might think if we did...

like i was going to dye my hair blue a couple of years back (at about 35 years old) and i thought what will my kid's teachers think about this?

beneficial its basically hair. your widely used coloration will strengthen back. you may not at all bleach your hair nonetheless it is going to fry it and make it seem such as you have a nest of split ends. iv senn some people who seem awsome with pink hair tho i wouldnt waste my time or money
