Why would the guy be sad if it was the girl's problem? He should just be alright and move on, right?

Well in a case like that...I would be understanding and supportive.
It would be obvious that I was not the one who was able to bring her out of the depression or convince her to seek medical help.
I think we all learn from our relationships and its important for a guy who thinks he's "all that" to get dumped....makes us sit and think for a few minutes.

very sad because i could not help her but I would let her that if she needs a friend I would be there in a heart beat depression is a terrible thing to go though and it is not a good thing to go though alone do not push your friends away too they all love you let them in let them love because being loved does help believe me I've been to that dark place and they help me back to the land of the living

It sounds more like you making an excuse to end the relationship.
You must not like him being 'very much into you' otherwise what exactly are you doing? Saving him from your depression?

It was her problems that caused it and move on, wouldnt want to deal with that later if we got married what a mess. Run don't walk.

As her bf I would want to do everything I can do to help her, but if she dumps me that would make me feel so bad because you get locked out and theres nothing you can do..
