Egg Drop Soup (Restaurant Style) Recipe
I came up with this recipe while searching for the perfect "Egg Drop Soup". My picky 9 year old likes it, so I feel it is kid friendly.
4 cups chicken broth, divided
1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
4 eggs
1 egg yolk
4 servings

1. Reserve 3/4 cup of chicken broth, and pour the rest into a large saucepan.
2. Stir the salt, ginger and chives into the saucepan, and bring to a rolling boil.
3. In a cup or small bowl, stir together the remaining broth and cornstarch until smooth.
4. Set aside.
5. In a small bowl, whisk the eggs and egg yolk together using a fork.
6. Drizzle egg a little at a time from the fork into the boiling broth mixture.
7. Egg should cook immediately.
8. Once the eggs have been dropped, stir in the cornstarch mixture gradually until the soup is the desired consistency.

I'm not sure I understand. Do poor people like foods that are different from other people?

If they are poor, why not cook something that they could not afford. Perhaps it would be a treat for them. Why not a beef stroganoff or something like that. If you need recipes, try http://www.allrecipes.com You'll find plenty there. What do you like to eat? What is a treat for you? Why not make them that?

Here's the Beef Stroganoff
Makes 8 servings

INGREDIENTS:
1 (16 ounce) package egg noodles
2 tablespoons butter, softened
2 onions, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 (8 ounce) package fresh mushrooms, thinly sliced
1 pound beef loin steak, cut into thin strips
1 (14 ounce) can beef consomme
1/4 cup Burgundy wine (optional)
3 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons cold water, or as needed
1 (8 ounce) container sour cream

DIRECTIONS:
Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add noodles and cook 5 to 7 minutes or until al dente; drain.
Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir in onions and garlic, and cook until slightly tender. Mix in mushrooms, and continue cooking 2 minutes. Place steak strips in saucepan and cook about 1 minute. Mix in consomme, Burgundy and lemon juice. Bring to a boil.
In a small bowl, thoroughly blend flour with cold water until smooth. Reduce saucepan heat to low. While stirring constantly, slowly pour flour mixture into saucepan. Gradually return to boil while stirring rapidly, until sauce is thick and smooth. Cover saucepan and continue cooking 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat, let cool slightly and stir in sour cream. Serve over cooked egg noodles.

Beans and rice are cheap - you can feed a family of four for two days nutritiously for about two dollars. Just soak the dried beans overnight, then drain the water and rinse the beans, picking out any that didn't swell or are shriveled. Cover them with water to about one inch above the top of the beans, and boil them until they're tender. I recommend waiting until the end to season them, because salting the beans early in cooking can make them tough. If you have leftover meat of any kind, even hot dogs, you can chop it up and throw it in until it's steaming. Rice is easy as well, just follow the directions on the package.

"That Stuff"
We used to eat this all the time. Easy to double or triple for larger family. It's okay to skimp on beef, using half amount called for.

1 pound ground beef, browned
1 can cream of whatever soup
1 box mac n cheese, prepared.
mix together and heat through.
Yum!

Also, Tater tot casserole.

add into 9x13 inch pan, in this order;
Ground beef, browned and drained, then canned french cut green beans, then cream of whatever soup, (I like cream of chicken and cream of mushroom, both)Then tater tots.. Bake 350 degrees for about an hour, till tots are crispy and done. Sounds gross, but It's really, really good!
